Scene Transition Effects - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

While watching several of the episodes I noticed very normal scene transition shots, a normal fade in/fade out, either to black or transparent that disolves into the next , but re-watch the "Family Portrait" episode. They use very special fancy scene transition shot of wipes, slides, graphical dissolves etc nothing simple during the major scene changes. I haven't re-watched all the other episodes to take note of if they did this again or just for this one episode? I'm sure it was more expensive, and maybe abandoned it after this episode experiment. Batman did something similar to save costs in that the 1st season fight scenes, the POW's BIFF's BAM's were superimposed over the action, and in season 2/3 they just used simple full screen cut shots showing the words.

Family Portrait used that weird transition, and the only other time I saw it used again, was in Will Success Spoil Herman Munster?
