I am new to the board...have loved DVD since I started watching 30 years or so ago (i'm 41 now)...hadn't seen the show in years until I ordered the 4th season on DVD last year and was amazed how well the show has stood up after all these years.
However, I wasn't too interested in seeing the first few seasons because I thought, like most shows, the first little while would be inferior. Last night I saw a few shows from early in year 1 and was thrilled to learn they are as good as all the later ones. Can't wait to see all of them again. A Chantz |

I have an 8 year old daughter and she has tortured me by watching to tripe that poses for television these days. I have made it my goal to get hooked on DVD , Bewitched and a few others.
This morning I discovered watching DVD with that contented look on her face that we all display doing same. Moral of the story? Excellence doesn't age. |

Welcome! I agree that all 5 seasons of TDVDS are excellent. My 3 children, ages 12, 8 and 6 all love TDVDS and other classic TV shows like I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart, etc. I don't let them watch the garbage that is on TV these days. You are among friends here!

I couldn't agree more. The final straw was when I discovered my 8 year old likes a show called the "Proud Family" which aside from being horribly racist is just plain awful.
I heard yesterday that Will and Grace is up for a few emmys. I watched it once for about 5 minutes. Everyone is mean to each other...every blatant gay stereotype is exploited. It is humour at the expense of someone else. Now I realize that Buddy insulted Mel for a hobby...but I was never offended by it. I sensed a fondness between the two characters. And sure Rob and Jerry had tiffs but there was a geniune respect and friendship there. My wife says I live in the past. But I like it there! |

Re. the last post by "A. Chantz" ---
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The "Rob & Laura 1960s" era is where I want to stay too. Thank goodness for Image Entertainment, Paul Brownstein, and (lest we forget) Mr. Douglas Denoff -- for giving us all 158 episodes of TDvDS on DVD-Video to bask in anytime we please. As Frank Sinatra once said -- "If lovin' Laura is wrong; I don't wanna be right". OK, so maybe he never said those EXACT words -- but they're true nevertheless. ![]() I discovered the following post on the IMDB.com DvDS "Forum/Message Board" (sounds like a 6-year-old probably scribed this piece of great prose): >>> "rob petrie and buddy sorrel are immature and act like little kids. laura petrie always whines and cries and she's no grown up either. you put two and two together, you get a bad show..." <<< ----- Apart from not knowing what a "Shift" key is and misspelling Buddy's last name -- this person obviously has no taste either. Otherwise he/she would KNOW that TDvDS is immortal in its greatness and timelessness.I guess that person would rather have Rob and Buddy and Laura acting like Mr. French from "Family Affair" 24/7. THAT would have made for a great TV series, huh?

I love all 5 seasons,. The Dick Van Dyke Show is so much fun to watch. I have become a Dick Van Dyke fan. I am starting to watch Diagnosis Murder now. I wish that show would come out on DVD.

Speaking of the seasons...
They are ALL obviously fantastic, and, of course, easy to become obsessed with. I just wanted to say that I bought Season 3 new from amazon.com for a grand total of $18.11!!! I couldn't believe it! If anyone else wants to check amazon.com I bought it from someone with the username "videoplanet". Good Luck!!! |

Achantz, I totally relate to living in the past. In fact, just last night my husband bemusedly commented on how I live in the past. Also, a few years ago I had my horoscope done and it said something about how I am always looking to the past. LOL I almost exclusively watch old shows and movies, collect various vintage housewares and magazines, listen to old music. And ever since I was a little girl I wanted to grow up and be Laura Petrie, thought Rob and Laura were the best couple, and want their house. I'm still waiting for that to happen.

I live in Toronto and a few months ago we obtained the ability to easily record TV shows without using a VCR...I think its called TIVO in the US...and it has opened a whole new world. At the beginning of every week I scan through what is on and record what I want to watch. The beauty of this system is that when i sit down to watch the tube I don't have to expose myself to the #$%^ that is on TV at that time. Another great advantage is that it is simple to fast-forward through the commericals. So far I have DVD and Bewitched (for the kids) on permanent record. Life is wonderful!!!
