Believe it or not (no, wait... that's the Greatest American Hero) a handful of lost episodes from the famously obscure sitcom Mr. Terrific have just resurfaced. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're not in English.
Thanks to one of our newer members here at sitcoms online (user name Billy Shears) I now have in my possession nine episodes of MT dubbed for German television distribution. As far as I know, seven of these eps have not been run in the states since their initial airing in 1967. It's a little frustrating not knowing the language, but it's truly a treat seeing this show again. More details later as I go through the tapes. |

Fantastic news. Glad you are getting a chance to view a show you love so much. Too bad about the dubbing, though.

I have one episode of this I just discovered. It is in English. The episode is Feb. 20, '67 "Stanley the Safecracker". I haven't had a chance to watch it all yet. I just scanned the first few minutes to verify it was in English, I plan to watch it all tomorrow.
Wish I could find its counterpart Captain Nice. I have no idea why I don't remember these as I watched TV then. I must have been watching something else. I know I watched The Green Hornet and Batman back then. Another favorite from then I would like to see again but can't find, "It's About Time". Anyway saw this thread and thought I'd follow up and let you know that some English episodes are starting to show up now. |

Did the network throw this show out of the vaults? Sometimes it sounds like television shows are getting the same treatment that silent films and early talking films did, and versions of things show up from overseas.

Flagman,
TVLand has aired two Mr. Terrific episodes, Stanley the Safecracker and Matchless, so those two are relatively easy to come by amongst traders. Also easy to find is the made for TV movie The Pill Caper, which had scenes from four Mr. Terrific episodes spliced together, and the original Mr. T pilot starring Alan Young (aka Wilbur Post) as Stanley. Will we ever see English versions of the other 15 episodes? Time will tell, unfortunately. Fortunately, all episodes of Captain Nice are pretty easy to get these days. Where were you in 1967? I was in 3rd grade, and I loved coming home (it was either Wednesdays, or perhaps Tuesdays) in the evening to see Mr. Terrific at 8 pm and Captain Nice at 8:30 pm. I have since seen many of the cartoons of that day as well... pretty neat to relive those shows again: Gigantor, Astroboy, 8th Man, Marine Boy, The Mighty Heroes, Frankenstein Jr. were my favorites.
