Talking They Showed A 1987 Episode Today (7/11/05)!

Lifetime was showing episodes from 1992 for a few weeks, so I naturally assumed they’d go in order and start showing 1993 episodes. Then, out of the blue, they go into very early episodes! Can’t say I’m complaining --- those are the BEST! I was watching today, and I could tell it was a very early episode, but I had no clue it was from 1987 (as I saw in the end credits). Robert Stack looked so young!

That case about the Oklahoma lady that died in the car burning was very intriguing. They also showed the case about the Michigan woman that supposedly died from falling off her horse, but it was proven her husband poisoned her --- I remember that one well.

Yes I enjoyed the ones today very much too. The one about the lady from Oklahoma (Aileen Conway) is one of my favorites UM's because it is so baffling. One possible theory is that she interrupted a robbery because the would be thiefs didn't know she was there. Its possible she knew them but it seems strange that they would go to all those efforts to kill her as to drive her car far away on an abandoned road douse it with accelerant and then run it into a bridge killing her. Also they said her purse was found at her house which would make one doubt robbery.

What do you guys think happened?

Yes, the Shannon Davis case. I remember that segment also because it happened in Michigan, my home state. Although I was only 5 months old when the murder took place (July of 1980.) I'd like to know which city/town it happened in, all Robert Stack said was it took place in a farming community in Michigan.

Hard to say….

I also was thinking that the robber theory is rather extreme. Wouldn't they just kill her in the house --- like maybe hold her head down in the bathtub to drown her or something?

Could she have led a "double life" of some sort that led to her tragic demise? Sometimes it involves people you'd least likely expect. It’s just so hard to come up with a motive --- there doesn’t seem to be any (her purse was still there and nothing was missing). Did the neighbors ever witness anything unusual on that day? I don’t think they mentioned anything in the segment.

I'm also from Michigan!

I don't know exactly what city/town they lived in, but I'll try to do some research.

I'm so happy they convicted the bastard that killed her.

I have the original NBC broadcasts of of the episodes shown today. It's apparent that Lifetime does way too much butchering to the episodes because alot of details are left out.

Yes, I noticed that and am not really sure why they never show it. It was the case of Missy Munday and Jerry Strickland. She was a teenager who managed a gas station. She met Jerry, an older man who had done time for raping his sister-in-law and slashing her throat leaving her for dead, and they started dating. What a guy! Apparently Jerry had plans to rob the gas station where Missy worked and she was definitely in on it. They took one of the employees (a man named Elmer) out who I believe handled the gas station receipts and murdered him then fled. They did eventually get married and had a child. I wish I could see the update but am told there was an update and he was captured but am not sure if she was (Justin, do you know?). I was curious what kind of time she got as I definitely think being a naive teenager shouldn't get her out of paying for what she helped do.

I noticed that as well hence my comment about Lifetime butchering the episodes. I guess more air time for commercials is more important than possibly solving a crime or updating viewers.

I had thought it was the other way around. It looked like, to me at least, that Lifetime was going backwards. Starting with 1993 then going backward through 1992, then on to 1991. I just hope thet keep showing the older ones.

Both episodes today were kind of haunting...

There was the two women, one of which was murdered, the second left paralyzed, and how the update said that the suspect wasen't caught for a while because of a police coverup?

The one about the guy who lived 70 miles away and was accused and convicted of the store robbery and sentenced to life in prison without parole until 1999 (which he was probably granted, the case was most likely tipped by his previous crime).

Also, the one about the newspaper stand guy who died with no one, but an update claimed that a daughter was found...that's eerie.

All of the episodes are haunting. The one about the kid who was involved in the cult and was found with wounds on his back, most likely a homicide, but no one was investigating...freaky.

That happened in Hillsdale located in the southern part of Michigan near the Ohio border. I was only 8 years old myself when that happened so I don't remember much about it but I watched this segment with my mom when it originally aired in 87 and she knew the story very well.

Heather - Strickland was apprehended. No clue if Munday was with him. In the season one opening theme they show a shot of Strickland getting out of a car in handcuffs while flanked by detectives.

Hmm, about 90 miles from where I live. Yes, my mother too knew the story very well and she said she remembered watching the local news feature the capture of Shannon's husband. I was probably too busy watching cartoons to notice.

Thanks for the info, Mijada.
