I came across this link with a list of 100 of the most popular gay songs. I found it interesting that Abba's, Dancing Queen, came in third. My brother, who is gay, told me that Dancing Queen is usually the last song played in the clubs he goes to.
Maybe some of our gay members (and others) can shed some light on the accuracy of the songs listed or add to the list. http://www.gaypridecanada.com/music.html |

I remember when the song, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, by Steely Dan, came out, I heard it was about a reluctant gay person, spooked by his first gay encounter. Looking at the lyrics, it makes sense.
Rikki Don't Lose That Number ( Steely Dan ) We hear you're leaving, that's ok I thought our little wild time had just begun I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run But if you have a change of heart Rikki, don't lose that number You don't wanna call nobody else Send it off in a letter to yourself Rikki, don't lose that number It's the only one you own You might use it if you feel better When you get home I have a friend in town, he's heard your name We can go out driving on Slow Hand Row We could stay inside and play games, I don't know And you could have a change of heart Rikki, don't lose that number You don't wanna call nobody else Send it off in a letter to yourself Rikki, don't lose that number It's the only one you own You might use it if you feel better When you get home [break] You tell yourself you're not my kind But you don't even know your mind And you could have a change of heart Rikki, don't lose that number You don't wanna call nobody else Send it off in a letter to yourself Rikki, don't lose that number It's the only one you own You might use it if you feel better When you get home Rikki, don't lose that number (Rikki, don't lose that number) Rikki, don't lose that number |

Is THAT what that song was about? First I ever knew that! Duh!
Which reminds me - Take A Walk On The Wild Side had to be on it. |

I *think* that's what Rikki Don't Lose That Number is about. I heard that when it hit the charts. Great song, regardless of what it's about. |

Vogue deserves #1. I know gay men who hate Madonna but still love that song. That song sums everything about her up and I would say is easily the definitive recording of her catalog, even tho Into The Groove and Like A Prayer are closely behind it.
The list seems more cliche, like "how many gay icons can we fit on the list" instead of actually focusing on the songs. I love Melissa, but the song choices they picked for her weren't ones I'd have used. |

I'm surprised there's no Kylie Minogue on the list, I'd say she's easily the biggest gay icon of the past decade (barring the likes of Cher, Madonna and the sort who have been icons for ages)
