Default Write to Oxygen!

I know this might seem like a pathetic effort to get the show back on the air, but here it goes. I remember back when Lifetime was treating the sitcom 'Ellen' very badly, sometimes airing it, then not airing it at all, then when airing it the the timeslot would be when everyone was asleep. When Lifetime finally lost the rights, Oxygen snached it up knowing the shows does have an audience out there waiting for it. I thought that maybe since Facts of Life isn't airing anywhere else, maybe we could all write e-mails to Oxygen asking the network to aquire the show. I'll probably never get to see the show since I don't live in the US, but the FOL fanbase is like one I've never seen before. If any network can give the show good treatment, it would be Oxygen. They seem to honour all their shows equally and Facts of Life would be a perfect fit since Oxygen is a women's network. Since Sony doesn't seem like it's interested in releasing a FOL DVD set, this might be the next best thing.

You can give Oxygen TV Feedback here:

Tell them to acquire FOL!

This is my e-mail:

To whom it may concern,

I would like to start off by saying, I think the Oxygen network is one of the most progressive and entertaining cable television networks out there. The lineup is very diverse and thought provoking, everything from the social realism of 'Roseanne' to the sexually explicitness of 'Bliss'. In particular, I believe the lineup of female-centered sitcoms is the stronghold for the network. Since Oxygen is a "women's network", it does make sense that each sitcoms features women who are all different, from brutal honesty of Grace in 'Grace Under Fire' to the quirkiness of Ellen in 'Ellen'. Women are just represented in every size, shape, color, and form on the network. However, I do have a suggestion for the daytime Oxygen lineup. I want to suggest the hit sitcom 'The Facts of Life' to be added to the lineup. It is an extremely popular sitcoms that performed well in syndication over the years, in fact as far back as 2000, the show was the highest rated sitcom on the Nick @ Nite network with numerous marathons which broke ratings records for the network. The show was overwhelmingly strong in demographics for minorities, the 18 to 49 age group, and WOMEN. Sadly, after its run on the network, the show has disappeared from syndication. However, it's still as popular as ever. The owner of the show, Sony, constantly holds polls on its web site asking fans of select sitcoms to vote on which show should be released on DVD next. It's no surprise that 'The Facts of Life' is almost always #1 or close to it. Sadly, it seems as if Sony has no intention of ever releasing the show on DVD. These polls have been going on for months, yet there is no word if a DVD is even in the works. This leaves many fans, such as myself, very frustrated. You'd think if a show performed well in syndication and constantly ranks high on DVD polls, it would be released! This is not the case however, which leaves a television network as the next best thing. Oxygen has always sought to broaden its audience with great and enjoyable shows, this is why 'The Facts of Life' is a perfect fit! It is a show about the lives of four different young women and their elderly mentor. Its premise is very similar to that of 'The Golden Girls', which has consistently been the #1 rated show on Oxygen's rival network, Lifetime. Except here, the show focuses on a younger cast. Speaking of rival network Lifetime, there was a time where that network held the rights to the sitcom 'Ellen', which now airs on Oxygen. That sitcom was never treated very good by that network and Oxygen knowing there was indeed an audience out there interested in the show, acquired it! The same should be done for 'The Facts of Life' which has always performed better in syndication than 'Ellen'. Added to this, the sitcom features a young Kim Fields, who is also a primary star of the sitcom 'Living Single, which also airs on Oxygen! I beg of you to take my suggestion into consideration, I can guarantee that you won't be displeased.

They wrote a e-mail back saying:
Thanks for getting in touch.

We receive a tremendous amount of e-mail, so it may take us a bit of time to get back to you. Be assured that we will forward your message to the appropriate person here at Oxygen and will do our best to respond to you as quickly as possible!

Your friends at Oxygen Media

Oxygen seems very interested in the well-being of its fans, that's why FOL would be a good fit there.

Come on the rest of you! You can do it! lol

This is what I wrote to them:
Hello. My name is Travis Huffman. I am a huge fan of "The Facts of Life". It is my favorite show. I love it so much. Facts of Life hasn't been airing on tv since November on 2002, and it was in syndication on former Odyssey Channel "The Hallmark Channel".*
*Hallmark didn't really treat the Facts of Life well. It wasn't their kind of show. But I think that it is your kind of show. Take a look at "Ellen". I remember when it was airing on Lifetime. It was not doing well there. Sometimes Lifetime would screw up when they were supposed to show it and most of the times, they would show it at a late time that no one could see. But when Lifetime pulled the plug, you picked it up, and now it is as successful as can be. I would like to make a suggestion. I strongly think if you were to pick up Facts of Life, then that would raise the ratings way more than The Hallmark Channel's were. If you brought back Facts of Life, it would definitely raise the level of your network, you will be getting a lot more viewers. I think this would be a good idea, your a network mainly for woman, and Facts of Life is somewhat more for females than males, (I know I'm a male, but I still love it). A lot of people around the U.S want to see Facts of Life again, especially the kids between the ages of 10 - 25. Which comes to another request, if you were to pick up Facts of Life, it probably would be a good idea to air it at a time that most viewers will be able to see them. Most viewers who watch Facts of Life are still in school (including me) and wont be able to see it at any time between 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. If you were to pick it up, it would be best to show it at a time that most viewers can see it, perhaps 6:00 PM would be a good example. It would be great to bring back Facts of Life, this show has not been on the air in almost three years. It would be a good change and a great plan. Please help us all who really want to see Facts of Life again. Thanks for your time.*
*
Sincerely,*
*Travis Huffman

They sent me the same reply at to the one you recieved. Thanks a lot for suggesting this. That was a very good idea. I hope theres a chance. Lets keep the emails going!

Come on guys, keep the e-mails going! Since the FOL board is one of the most visited boards here, it would be great if each and every fan of the show here wrote a e-mail. It would show just have dedicated fans are to the show and Oxygen seems interested in stuff like that. With the increase of FOL-related e-mails, it might be enough for them to want to acquire the show! It doesn't matter if you're not the world's greatest writer or if someone else has your ideas in their e-mail, all that matters is that you actually write the e-mail!

I would advise continuing writing to Oxygen since they seem most attentive to their audience, but you can also try WE (Women's Entertainment).

The e-mail for WE is contactwe@rmhi.com

There are many shows that are great for women so I decided to send this email to Oxygen. Here is a copy of the email I sent.

There are many shows that are not seen on television these days that demonstrate women in such a way that sitcoms of the past have. You have obviously prided yourself upon the excellent choices you have made in your choices for syndicated shows. The versatility you show in your selections gives a wide range of diversity to women who want to watch television with women in strong and starring roles. This is the reason that I am sending you this email to give you some ideas of what shows are still popular among viewers - even years after not being seen.
If you check on the internet - www.sitcomsonline.com - you will find a message board with all kinds of threads wanting shows back on television. If you channel would consider airing any of these shows you are guaranteed an audience before any advertising. Some of the very popular requests are for shows not on DVD, currently being seen in syndication, and classic 70-80's shows. These shows range from the highly rated "Facts of Life", "One Day at a Time", and "Alice". You may notice that these shows are about strong women of different backgrounds and situations. This is not seen on television these days, as our primary focus from networks are to become mainstream and forget the struggles of the women of past sitcoms. It would be refreshing to see these shows again.
As a female I miss roles that portray women in a strong and independent role dealing with the struggles of making it. You have a great selection of shows to view on your channel at this time, and adding more syndicated shows that are about women would only add to your strength as a positive channel for females.
Please consider these shows or even shows from the 70-80's era in the future of your schedule. Should you decide to research the areas of interest, I can only recommend that you research the message boards and wanted on dvd polls on the internet as a part of your decision making ideas. Thus far classic television has proved to be a great way to bring in ratings. Just recently TVLand and Nick at Nite drew in large ratings during specials showing classic television from the 80's. Due to poor treatment and airing times many shows have had the "plug pulled" but with a decent respect of a show a number of original fans will return to watching the show and a new generation can experience the joys of these shows.
Thank you for your time in reading this email and consideration that you may take in any new ideas.
