Default scary Kirk

for the hell of it I decided to check out the site mentioned on VH1 with Kirk. I am a Christian but decided to click "no" just to see what Kirk had in store, and it was Kirk going on and on about how not being Christian is going to send you to hell and how you're pissing God off.

I am fans of other celebrities who found religion and are more famous for their belief in God than their careers these days (Lisa Whelchel for one), but even though Lisa is a very openly religious person, I have never once saw her be one bit as judgmental as Kirk. For example, Kirk says "you're going to hell if you had unmarried sex", Lisa says "I believe it's best to wait till marriage". There is a big difference. It's good that God has saved Kirk from the pitfalls that have befallen other teen idols of the past, but for crying out loud, he's a little too brimstonish.

Lisa Whelchel's message is all get saved and your life will perfect and God will forgive you for anything- sin now and be forgiven on Sunday. Lisa gives the impression she is better then non christians because she has found God. thats bull. God is not going to come down and wipe away all your problems and make you a saint. her message is not really scriptual it is more feel good and love everyone-and God will love you. that is not what the Bible says. Sounds good but it is just to easy isn't it- if it were so easy to be so perfect then isn't everyone in the world perfect.

Kirk's message is much more realistic, I admit harsher , but his message is to follow the 10 comandments and live by the word of God- or be in Hell. This is stated in the Bible. Kirk admits he is not perfect none of us are and being a Christian is not going to make you perfect, living by Gods standards are not easy it takes an effort and the reward of that effort is going to heaven. His message is only scary if you know its the truth that you are doing wrong- sex before marriage, stealing, lying,...which we all know are wrong even if we are not christian.- but ignore these basic morals. He is not scary, his ministry is not all hell and brimstone either they also promote the loving side of God. His message is really that you have to strive to be a good person everyday, even though it is not easy. I would much rather follow his teachings then Lisa's she is just to goody goody, while kirk is much more realistic and down to earth.

well, whose to say that Kirk Cameron's God is right and Lisa Whelchel's God is wrong. They are both spiritual and are saying/doing what they believe is right. Only God himself knows exactly what God is like. Lisa is following what she believes is the way and so is Kirk, they just have different ideas about God. Lisa's God is all-loving and patient and forgiving, Kirk's God is vengeful and carries grudges. Maybe God is a mixture of both, who is alive that truly knows?

Good points, Buff.

I believe in the old saying, "That's between you and your God." Because we all make decisions that we think we'll get away with, where we won't be sent to hell. I have a hard time believing before Kirk was "saved" that he didn't have some hard partying times. There's no such thing as a perfect Catholic, Christian, Jew, whatever. For Kirk or any demonination to expect their patrons to live perfect lives is unreal. We all cuss, get mad, overeat, oversex, whatever. So Kirk's saying even if a firefighter saves 100 lives but has premarital sex, he's going to hell? Bullshovic.

That's your opinion, not necessarily right or wrong, my opinion is different, again, not necessarily right or wrong either. everyone is intitled to their own opinions.

I am a Christian and I want to follow the 10 Commandments and Live by what the bible says. I don't say bad words that much because I know that they are wrong and my parents don't say them. I have grown up knowing that they are wrong and I don't say them. Once in a while I will say bitch, but only when I am really mad. As for the premarital sex, I don't want to do until I am married.

I am not a religious person, though I do believe in God. I respect anyone's right to believe in what God, deity or higher power they see fit. As long as they don't try and force it on me. Or tell me that I'm wrong for the way I conduct my life. Whatever lifestyle any one lives is not my business. As long as people mind their own business (and that includes me) and aren't hurting anyone, I say live and let live.

As for people who go around making judgements on God's behalf, I'd like to ask them: "Who appointed you as God's mouthpiece? And if he did, can you provide me some proof."

We had a man who lived next door to us for a few years who was a Jehovah's witness. Never had a problem with him. We talked to him only a handful of times, but he was a good neighbor and we respected each other's boundaries.

I agree everyone has a different view of God and religion, but the important thing is to respect everyones beliefs, you may or may not share kirk cameron or Lisa Welches beliefs, but you at least have to respect them for standing for something that they belief in. And for being positive role models, neither of them have ever been in Jail or on drugs that I know of thats amazing considered how many child stars end up.

As long as I have been a fan of Lisa Whelchel (over 21 years), I have NEVER heard Lisa espouse that kind of "easy forgiveness" message, as you so describe. I just think that too many fundamentalists have a hard time dealing with the concept of God's grace so they have to act bullying and boorish with their "REPENT OR BURN IN HELL!!!!" message. How possible is it to have a vibrant Christian life based on the constant fear of hell??

IMO, Lisa's God is right. She reflects that in her life.

Kirk Cameron's God turns people to toast.

Kirk's message is not all about toasting people in hell. They are not in constant fear of hell. They are in fact a very compassionate group, God is very loving and will accept you if you live by his law. They just don't have the lovey dovey and oozing sweetness view of God that Lisa'a people do. It's is much easier to live by Lisa's God where God is all forgiving and loving. Kirks message makes a lot of people uncomfortable because it hits to close to he truth about thier lives and where they will go when they die.

And what is wrong with lovey dovey sweetness? Some people need that softer forgiving touch in their lives. Before I heard Lisa's album in 1984, I was struggling big time with the thought that no matter how hard I tried, God did not accept me. Lisa's message changed that for me.
