Has anyone seen this movie? It was aired on 10/13/02 on CBS. It's about the life of "The Great One". I thought Garrett did an excellent job potraying Gleason. He even looks very similar to the younger, thinner Gleason (except for being a couple feet taller). Now I think he would have made a good canidate for a Honeymooners movie. Well anyway, I thought is was a very cool movie.

I agree that Garrett did a great Gleason, but no one should have remade The Honeymooners. Some things are just better left as they were.

My favorite part of that made-for-TV movie of Gleason is when Garrett (as Gleason) is talking with the writers, and they're coming up with the idea of "The Honeymooners"....only the writers aren't quite getting it....but Gleason is.
The writers are sitting there throwing out ideas like, "Maybe they could have a couple of kids", "We'll make the couple dirt-poor", etc....and Gleason is pacing back and forth, his mind racing and he's saying things like, "No, they can't have kids....it's not funny if they fight in front of kids!", "No, they can't be POOR....they're STRUGGLING, but not poor!", etc. That scene shows how Gleason's creative mind worked, and what a true genius he was. |

Excellent movie. Garrett nailed Gleason. It was good seeing the behind the scenes stuff that went on. I agree that Gleason was a comic genius.

I recall remarking to my half-sister years ago that I thought Brad Garrett reminded me a lot of Jackie Gleason. Unfortunately, she passed away before
the TV-movie was made, and I haven't had an opportunity yet to see it myself. But I'm sure he was great in it. |
