Question Question to those of you who write celebrities for autographed photos...

Do you guys/gals send in a picture you want them to sign, or can you just write the celebrity a letter, and a message requesting a signed autographed picture? I really want to send a few celebs mail, but have never done it before.

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't sure where to put it.

You can send a pic if you want to -- just as long as the picture isn't of a crappy quality. It can be an unsigned one you got off eBay or printed off somebody's laser printer (it would have to be a huge picture though). It doesn't matter.

What I do is, when I write a celeb a letter, I tell them which part of their work I liked the best and then I close the letter by asking for an autographed pic. I send a 4x6 index card along that the celeb can sign if they wish to, or if they don't have any extra pictures lying around. I also ask them if it is possible for them to inscribe the picture with my name. If the celeb has a trademark saying that I like, I also ask them to inscribe their saying on the picture. For example, I wrote to Fred Dryer, who starred as Rick Hunter in Hunter (he's the guy over to the left in my avatar). Rick Hunter would always say, "Works for me." so I asked him to inscribe that on his pic to me and sure enough, he did so.

I have a question about writing to celebs too. I'm sorry I know this will sound stupid, but to have a better chance of getting a reply you're supposed to send along a SASE. So if you want to get back a signed picture how big should the envelope be? Then do you have to send your autograph request in a envelope big enough to hold the picture sized SASE?

It's not REQUIRED, but yes it's a very good idea to send along a SASE. To be safe, you want to send a 9x12 manila envelope.

No, you can fold the SASE into thirds and it'll fit perfectly into one of those long, regular white envelopes -- the #10 envelope.

The manila envelope is/will be your SASE.

1. Write letter to celebrity and finish it.
2. Fold the letter into thirds and stuff it into a #10 envelope with one 37˘ stamp on it.
3. Address the #10 envelope to the celebrity you are writing to.
4. Take out a manila envelope, address the manila envelope to yourself and slap two 37˘ stamps on it.
5. Fold the manila envelope into thirds and stuff it into the #10 envelope that contains your letter.

There -- you're done.
