Question "Egging" someone on....???

What does that phrase imply, "You are just egging me on?"

* My webster's dictionary says it states, "To urge to action."

* The one on MS Word says, "To encourage somebody to do something, especially something wrong, foolish, or dangerous."

* And finally, dictionary.com defines it as "To encourage or incite to action. Used with on."

So... which one could this be in reference to the sentence, "You are just egging me on. WHAT DOOOOO IIII MEAN? Do ... dooo... dooooooo.... do do do do do do .... thingy where you do stuff to make me do stuff."

What does that sentence have to do with these definitions I listed? Just wondering for your opinions... You know... since SO people are usually so helpful!

The "Egging" I've always known is to try to convince someone to do something to the point of "You want to kill them", aka, very annoying.

Interesting, Brent88... Hmmm.... I've never heard of it used in that context.

It seems to that this person meant to say I was just "pulling their leg." I guess? Is that another type of meaning?

I've never heard it used any other way... Pulling their leg down here means "Pulling their leg"

I hear this phrase all the time (I'm in the UK,different slang)- for example, if two people were gonna fight (in school usually) and the person's friends start encouraging their friend to go and fight, this is egging them on. It's encouraging people in a sort of sly 'little demon on your shoulder' sorta way.

That is the same word. It must've been said in a different manner, but here's how dictionary.com defines it:

tr.v. egged, egg·ing, eggs
To encourage or incite to action. Used with on: The racing fans egged their favorites on.

Webuster: Interesting UK definition, especially used as like a noun.

Thats what I always thought it meant and I don't live in the UK.

Talking

Yup - it means "encouraging", possibly taunting to encourage - i.e. I dare you. I double-dog dare ya.
