Some of you might recall that I posted a message here in the past concerning a Texas murder case that UM profiled in early 1994. It was about the 1981 murders of a mother and her young son. Although I couldn't remember the names of the victims (especially since I only saw the segment once on NBC, and it was apparently never rerun on Lifetime), there were some things about the case that stood out.
Here's what I remember about the case: 1) The murders occurred during the Christmas season of 1981. 2) The bodies were found in a vacant lot. 3) The day in which the mother and son were murdered happened to be the latter's fifth birthday. 4) On the same day of the murders, the suspected killer entered a gas station, asking to use their phone, but the employee refused his request. Thanks to some research, I have finally managed to find more information on the case, including the names of the victims. They were Roxann Jo Jeeves and Kristopher Korper. Roxann Jo Jeeves was a thirty-year-old divorced mother. It turned out that I had misremembered the date of the murders as having been on Christmas Day; it was actually December 23, 1981, two days before Christmas. But I was correct when I remembered that the double homicide occurred during the Christmas season, and that the date of the murders was the murdered boy's fifth birthday. They were found shot to death in a field. The murder case was featured in a book entitled Murderers Among Us, by Stephen G. Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth. The following link contains an excerpt from the book: http://www.stephenmichaud.com/murderers.htm There's more. The following link is an article concerning a development in the case. The article is dated April 8, 2003, but it says that a man named George Washington Hicks has been linked to the murders via DNA. Hicks has been in prison since 1994, serving time in Huntsville, Texas, for unrelated offenses, including aggravated sexual assault. http://www.texnews.com/1998/2003/tex...A_testi48.html So far, I haven't found anything more recent on the case, so I don't know if Hicks has already been tried for the crimes. But I'll try to keep a lookout. |
