Ringo snubs McCartney - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Ringo Starr has scotched rumours he will join Sir Paul McCartney on stage again. The news will come as a huge disappointment to Beatles fans who were hoping the two surviving members of the Fab Four would reunite.

Fans have been praying that Live 8 would be the perfect opportunity for the Beatles reunion. But Ringo has dismissed speculation on American TV. He told ‘Access Hollywood’: “I haven’t toured with Paul since 1966. We’re never going to do it. We are not going to tour together.”

The two legends did share a stage in 2002 at the ‘Concert for George’, a memorial concert on the first anniversary of George Harrison’s death from cancer, but Ringo insisted that was a one-off.

He added: “I go with my band and he goes with his.” But the drummer had some good news for his fans - he has no plans to retire from playing music. Ringo said: “The blessing of being a musician is you can go on until you drop. As long as I can hold those sticks I’ll be fine. I might be playing the blues, but I’ll be fine."

I don't understand why he wouldn't want to, unless he doesn't want to play large venues anymore. He plays smaller shows - he comes up a few times a year to do shows at a local casino.

I wouldn't call it a snub as much as I think Ringo knows deep down that there's no way possible him and Paul performing onstage together would be able to live up to the hype considering the legacy The Beatles have gained since their last performances in 1966. Paul and Ringo are both happy with what they're doing now, and I think they both realize that they could put on the best possible concert in music history together and still it wouldn't be considered good enough to many because of how unrealistic the expectations would be.'

This is very much the reason why many classic tv shows will not do in-character reunions, even tho cast gettogether/reminiscing specials happen instead, because someone like the cast of Seinfeld knows that they could write a season 4-quality in-character and yet it still wouldn't be good enough considering the anticipation people would have for a reunion. Bea Arthur refused to do in-character reunions for Maude and The Golden Girls for years because she knew that no matter how much people would've loved to see Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia together one more time, it would never live up to the expectations that people would have for it.

The Beatles are ancient history now (especially with John and George gone) I think that the remainding members(Paul and Ringo) should just let it go! They can do well on their own(Especially Paul!)

I think that Paul realizes this.

I agree with what Buffyslayer and PennyLane said-- the expectations of their audiences(and they sure would have a LOT of people coming to see them) would be too high. Besides, why start that up now when they have excellent careers going for them? It would never be the same without Lennon and Harrison

Touring and performing are two entirely different things. They may find themselves on the same stage together, even if by accident. Who knows, really?

I don't see this as a "snub" at all. All Ringo said was that he and Paul were "not going to tour together." And to say "no tour" is certainly not the same as to say "I want nothing to do with Paul."

The word "snub" implies anger or antagonism. I did not get that impression from the quotes attributed to Ringo Starr. He was simply stating the obvious: He and Paul will not tour together.

Shoddy reporting, IMO.
