I know he's an acquired taste to many, but technically he slaughters even Clapton. Even Clapton knew it - same with Townsend. There was a lot of jealously in England with Jimi around that time. No guitarist wanted to appear on stage after Hendrix did. That's actually what started The Who smashing their equipment - they needed to do something to try to upstage his act.

A lot of people don't realize just how good Frampton is either. Poor guy's good looks distracted from it.

Watch a film of Jimi sometime - his fingers become an absolute blur he's playing so fast. Also, only guitarist who could play behind his back and with his teeth. Just try putting your teeth on electric guitar strings sometime - its like biting down on tinfoil!
