A thread mentioned the case of Michael Self. I never saw that episode since It has never appeared on Lifetime. Could someone who saw the episode tell me about the case and what his sentence was. I can't find a single thing about him on the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Michael Self claimed that he was coerced into confessing to the murders of two girls in the early 1970s. His written "confession" was the only evidence against him, which resulted in his conviction and life sentence. He was denied parole in the 1990s. I have searched the internet for anything related to the case, but, so far, without success. Therefore, I don't know the current status of the case. |

Thanks for the reply. I told you there was nothing on him in the Internet. Was he convicted in Texas?

Since there appears to be nothing on the Internet about the case, the best hope might be to email the authorities in whatever jurisdicition in Texas the murders took place (although I don't remember exactly where in Texas), and ask whomever you're contacting about the status of the case. Another choice would be to write to UM to find out whether they know of any possible updates on the case. (Don't contact them via the hotline, because that's exclusively for submitting tips.) These may be longshots, but I can think of no other alternatives. |

The only thing I found on the internet was an old appeal from september of 1992. It stated that Michael Self's appeal was granted but then overruled by a high court. If the Unsolved Mysteries hotline is still on then why is it that the show was canceled. i know Robert Stack died but the show was canceled before that. They don't even update their cases anymore. I saw the Randolph Dial case last week and they didn't even update that case. Randoplh Dial is in prison.

Take my word for it. The last thing the hotline people need is to get flooded with calls from people badgering them with petty questions or comments. It is a sure way to reduce or hinder any incoming calls concerning tips about a case. The hotline people would certainly hate to learn that some very urgent tips failed to come through because they got swamped with petty calls. Chances are, you've heard horror stories about 911 emergency calls failing to come through because the 911 hotline got filled with non-emergency calls. |
