sitcoms that were hurt by running too many seasons bringing down the value of its syndicated reruns.
1)happy days(would be alot more popular if it ended a few seasons earlier) 2)one day at a time(its syndicated reruns would've been done alot better if it ended a couple of seasons earlier) 3)alice(would be alot more popular if it ended a few seasons earlier) 4)different strokes(would be alot more popular in syndication if it ended earlier) 5)all in the family(overkill) 6)the jeffersons(last couple of seasons hurt the show in syndication) 7)the facts of life(would be alot more popular if it ended a few seasons earlier) 8)laverne & shirley(a no brainer) 9)beverly hillbillies(if just the black and white episodes had been syndicated i think it would've done alot better in reruns) 10)married with children(milking the formula too long) 11)full house(athough i never like it in the first place) 12)that 70's show(in my opinion i just don't enjoy it anymore and i think next season it will get worse) 13)the cosby show(adding olivia & pam hurt the show reruns in my opinion) 14)family matters(athough i never like it in the first place) 15)step by step(athough i never like it in the first place) 16)roseanne(overkill) 17)threes company(one season too many in my opinion) 18)petticoat junction(when bea benadaret died so did the show) 19)good times(a no brainer) 20)night court( i would've cut its network run by one-third) 21)golden girls(too much of a good thing) 22)ozzie and harriet(15 seasons? i think thats the reason we rarely see it in syndication) 23)my three sons(anybody disagree with me that this show ran too long) 24)newhart(although the final episode maybe the best final for any sitcom) 25)frasier(its last few seasons don't hold a candle to CHEERS last few seasons) 26)malcolm in the middle(in my opinion) 27)make room for daddy 28)whos the boss 29)growing pains(kirk cameron saved, growing pain destroyed) 30)home improvement 31)friends(7 great seasons 3 mediocre seasons) 32)gimmie a break(moving to new york and dropping the kids from the cast hurt the value of its reruns) i did'nt include the following sitcoms because they are some of the biggest money makers in syndication and are still hold up well today) 1)cheers(all 11 seasons are fresh after all these years) 2)m*a*s*h(correct me if i'm wrong but i think m*a*s*h is alltime biggest money maker for a sitcom in syndicated reruns) 3)seinfeld(will last forever) 4)bewitched(i know alot of people will disagree with me on this one) 5)leave it to beaver 6)i love lucy 7)the andy griffith show 8)the mary tlyer show(all 7 seasons were excellent in my opinion) 9)the simpson(16 seasons and still has alot of good episodes) 10)everybody loves raymond(all 9 seasons were excellent) anyways i would love to hear everybodys opinion on this subject |

some of these I have to disagree with.
#2 - One Day At A Time - that's a show I feel got better as the cast got older. #7 - The Facts Of Life - the last season was unnecessary, but I loved season 8 and thought Cloris gave her all and Beverly was great. #21 - The Golden Girls - I think seven seasons was a perfect run. And in "ones that lasted long enough", I would gladly take the final seasons of Three's Company, The Golden Girls and One Day At A Time over post-Barney episodes of Andy Griffith and post-Radar episodes of MASH. Those are two prime examples of shows that could've gone off earlier. At least TGG and TC were still funny at the end, was MASH? |

Roseanne Went 1 Season Too Long and Even Then Some Of the Episodes Were Good SO I Don't Think That's Overkill.

I have to disagree with you BuffySlayer79,
''The Facts Of Life'' was great only with Mrs.Garrett in it. Charlotte Rae's leave is brought the show too lower ratings,IMHO. Also the girls were now young women, and Beverly Ann was horrible! I am so glad it lasted for nine years though!,It was a great sitcom and many generations could benefit from it today if were ran in syndication. |

I disagree with:
The Facts of Life - The show was still good in the last few years. They were able to come up with new ideas for episodes which is very hard to do when the show is going on for so long. Roseanne - I love the last seasons of this show. I think they were better than the first two seasons. The Golden Girls - This show ended at the right time. Even though I think there were too many episode flashbacks that kept ruining the show, the last season had a lot of funny episodes. Who's the Boss - the later years of this show are better than the first seasons in my opinion. I do agree with: Alice - I always found the Flo and Belle seasons of this show watchable. Once Jolene came into the show, they couldn't come up with any episode ideas and started remaking episodes which ruined this show. Diff'rent Strokes - the actress that played Maggie in the last season was horrible. All in The Family - It should have been canceled once Gloria and Mike left the show. Laverne & Shirley - Should have been canceled once Cindy left the show as Shirley. Family Matters - The last season was terrible. Especially the actress that replaced Jo Marie as Harriette. Three's Company - Like Alice, this show did a lot of episode remakes that weren't as good the first time. Bewitched - even though this show did way too many episode remakes in the last few seasons, I like Dick Sargent better as Darrin than Dick York. |

BTW, ratings weren't THAT bad in the last two seasons, somebody who runs a FOL site scanned a lot of weekly ratings from 86 to 88 and many many times, FOL actually was in the top 20 many times those two seasons (though in the 30's during season-ending ratings). I think the fact that everyone agreed it was time to move on caused the end of the show in 1988, not low ratings, because FOL always won it's timeslot. I'll take the eighth season without Garrett over the first, sixth and seventh seasons WITH her. The last season did suck a bit IMO, but it was more or less because each character had been exhausted and people like Pippa and Andy were getting too much screentime. |

I don't think Home Improvement was hurt by its length, 8 Seasons was right.
Frasier didn't last too long either, I think the last 2 seasons were better than 5/6 personally. |

I hate Roseanne,I don't see people got into watching that one. But
then again it was about a dysfunctional family and their problems. I hated Roseanne's loudy whiny voice too. I didn't care much for '' Married With Children '' either,I think Katey Sagal and Christina Applegate acted really horrible on that show. But the show I wish that would end forever is The Simpsons. I tired of that cartoon! I mean it's been on the air for about sixteen years. I was in grade school when show started.I wouldn't care less if they went off the air. I did purchase T-Shirts and got a Bart Simpson piggy bank one year for Christmas. But I have to admit,I'm not even nostalgic for that fad again! |
