Does anyone remember a UM case involving a guy who supposedly had amnesia, and then recalled a dream where he was with his family. He began a new life in some town. The segment ended with him saying, "At least I know I'm not wanted for anything." Then, the update reported that he was wanted on some criminal counts. Anyone remember this? If so, what do YOU think? Do you think this guy actually had amnesia, or was he just pretending in order to provide some excuse for his criminal activitites?

I believe this has happened at least twice on UM...that is, somebody claimed to have amnesia and it turned out they were a wanted fugitive.

I don't remember exactly which one you're referring to with the dream. It's possible that they were faking it, looking for pity. But why go on national television if you had put on such an elaborate ruse to avoid the law?

I remember one of these - the guy was found wandering around in a remote-type area in Colorado or Idaho or something. He knew how to use an adding machine I believe but claimed he didn't know why. I think he worked for a newspaper for awhile. Then he was reunited with his family and they discovered he was wanted for embezzlement or a similar crime. I have no doubt that guy faked his memory loss to avoid the charges.

There is also the case of "Tyler", who had amnesia and was found wandering the deserts on the outskirts of Las Vegas. They took him into the city, gave him a job, and played the story. They had an update where he got in touch with his family, and they had a reunion with his mom, but I never remember an update saying that he was actually wanted for...was it grand larceny? I've heard it talked about here several times. That's sad, too. He seemed like a nice guy.

It's fully possible he was faking to avoid the charges, and that his mother was helping the "he didn't remember us" case by pretending to see ignorance in his eyes.

I think your confusing the two amensia cases. The guy with amensia in Colorado or Idaho was the one wanted for grand larceny, they mentioned it in the update for his case.

"Tyler" (I think his name is Paul Beale?) is the guy they found wandering around the desert of Las Vegas. His case seemed genuine. I would like to know what ever happened to him and if he ever regained some of his memory.

I do think "Tyler" was wanted on grand larceny. I have the NBC airing of it and I believe they mention it but it seemed like on the recent Lifetime airing they didn't. Maybe the charges were dropped. I do think maybe he "freaked out" and wandered off but it didn't seem like the charges he was wanted on were very serious.

I also remember the other case of amnesia with the older guy with a beard. I think he was wanted for embezzlement (help me out if I'm wrong Kane

)or something like that and was reunited with his family.

Wow, it makes you wonder if all the people featured on UM with amensia were wanted for something.

This is another reason why Lifetime should include more updated updates (if that makes sense), but if it was on the original NBC broadcast, I wonder why Lifetime choose not to show that part?

"Tyler" real name Arthur Paul Beal was infact wanted by the authorities for larceny or some other similar crime, I can't quite remember the actual charge. This small part has been cut from the Lifetime version of the update but is intact in the original NBC update.

I only speculate the reason why Lifetime edited that part out was because perhaps he was never charged or the charges were dropped.

Well, they might have been trying to slim down on the episode size to fit in commercials, so they cut it since the story was about him finding his family, and not about his criminal record. We'll never know though.

Also, I don't think he was faking. Why would he agree to be on Unsolved Mysteries if he was wanted and he knew it? Unless he wanted to be caught.

Grand larceny sounds like it's a pretty hefty charge, though.

The older guy with the beard i think is the case where they found him after UM aired his case...his wife was looking for him, but they realized that he was running away from his family and the update just said that they found him working somewhere and that he wanted to disappear. The wife was on the update and thanked UM viewers.

I think you're getting this one mixed up with the other middle-aged guy amnesia victim. That one came on claiming he had amnesia and was looking for his family. The one who's wife was looking for him (i think they ran a fish hatchery or something like that) did have amnesia (or claimed to). They were reunited but decided to go their separate ways because he didn't remember her.

yes, nowheregirl, your intuition is correct. Those are two separate cases. The one I brought up is the guy who knew how to use an adding machine and began attending a Catholic church in town. The fish hatchery guy eventually turned up in Florida, quite a long way away from the Northwest, which is where he disappeared from.

Arthur Paul Beal A.K.A. "Tyler" wan't wanted for Grand Larceny like some of us thought but was wanted for allegedly stealing a shipment of groceries from a store he worked for in Boise. He was taken into custody by the Vegas police and later released pending the outcome of the outstanding warrant.

Actually, I was just thinking about this. The NBC update mentioned him being wanted, but the Lifetime update leaves it out and shows a live reunion between "Tyler" and his mother. This leads me to believe that the charges were dropped or he served the time, and the update was made shortly after the orignial update was made.

I guess they met again at a later date and Unsolved Mysteries was there to film their reunion. Remember on the night of the original broadcast "Tyler" and some friends were at his house in Vegas and a U.M. camera crew was there as well just incase the case was solved and it was.
