I've decided that I'm going to rent TV DVDs instead of buying them. I haven't watched a lot of the Mork & Mindy set I got for Christmas and the second season of Charlie's Angels has been left on the shelf for a long time. I'm one of those persons that doesn't like to watch a TV episode or a movie more than once, which is ironic because when I was a kid I was the opposite (I watched Tommy Boy 3 times a day every day in 4th grade). Unless it is a show that I really really like, I'm going to rent most of them on Netflix.
Do you prefer to rent or buy them? |

Buy 'em. I rewatch all of 'em anyway. I've already rewatched my Cheers sets at least twice or three times each. RIght now, I'm in the process of rewatching my Charlie's Angels sets and then Hunter. I just rewatched the pilot to Hunter a few days ago because at the time I watched it, I didn't understand the plot but now I do.

I've never rented. I buy shows that I will watch over again, like my M*A*S*H collection. There have been a few times where Ive been at a store mulling over a purchase of a DVD set - it's gotta be something I'm going to watch repeatedly.

The advantage of buying is you can watch it at any time, if you rent you are under preassure to watch the whole thing within a short period. I'm someone who likes to re-watch all my DVD's.

I've never rented a TVDVD, and don't really ever plan on doing so. I'll rent movies occassionally, but it's so expensive, it's worth the extra 5 bucks to own it.

I prefer buying no question, but I can understand renting too. Sometimes if you're sampling a show for the first time you're not sure if you'll like it enough to want to own it, so renting is a safe bet. I've rented the show 24 and liked it so much I ended up buying it. I've rented the ESPN series Playmakers, and even though I liked it, I don't known if I'd rewatch. Before I got caught up in the whole tv dvd craze I rented Soap season 1 and Saved By The Bell season 1 because I didn't plan on buying them. I watched the first disc of each and decided I had to own them, so that sort of kicked off my desire to just buy everything I'm interested in. I haven't rented anything in the last year. I prefer having stuff in my collection.

Besides Netflix, Where else can you rent tv series? You can`t rent them in video stores. You might get some HBO series, but that`s about all.

For TV Shows its always buy. I may rent a movie once in a while, but if a movie looks good I generally just buy it.
I would hate to rent a TV Boxset on DVD, I usually don't watch a whole set in a short period of time. |

I joined Netflix specifically to rent TV DVDs and I can tell you it has saved me money on buying stuff I just wasn't into and also things I really didn't care if I saw again. Their selection is pretty incredible.
With Netflix there is no late fees but at approximately $20 a month (for 3 dvd at a time) you better watch 6 or more a month to make it worth your while. And of course there is the largest selection of movies to choose from too. |
