Default Everything Old Is New Again

when I was growing up, I used to watch moonlighting regularly -- never missing an episode -- of this show that was definitely ahead of it's time.

Never before had comedy been mixed in with a dramatic format, creating what is now known as a dramady.

I remember, even at the age of 11 or 12, feeling the absolute pull of chemistry between David and Maddie, and just wanting them to kiss to relieve some of that tension.

And kiss they did -- who can forget the first uses of bitch and bastard on network TV?

Now, here it is, 16 years after the end of the show and I am finding myself falling in love all over again. It has characterizations that are still relevent today (though my modern mind wonders why they just won't pick up the cellphone to call each other ), and because I was so young when the shows first aired, I am finding that I don't remember much of them, so it's like watching a brand new show.

I've come home to moonlighting. I remember what drew me to the show in the first place, and I'm recalling my roots to the basis of male/female partnership series in general. All of them always compare themselves to David and Maddie.

I've watched through the first episode of season 2 so far, and I am so excited that I have 17 left to go before I have to wait for the next round of DVDs.

I'm looking forward to talking about the show with all of you

Hey Mona!

I loved your post, as I have much the same experience with Moonlighting - I was only 11 when it started and was a huge fan, but started to rediscover it a few years ago.

you're so right so that so many programmes compare themselves to Dave and Maddie, I often see progs where they use the "Fine!" "Fine!", "Good!" "Good!" arguments all the time!

Look forward to chatting more about ML on the board with ya!!

How great to meet fans that we haven't conversed with before. Glad you stopped by. Please feel free to post anytime!

Where are you from geographically? It is always cool to connect the fans with the part of the country/world they come from.

WELCOME!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome
I reside on Long Island, NY. I'm originally from New Jersey. My other somewhat current fandoms include Third Watch (which is probably what I'm "known" for. I run a rather large fan site for that show), Who's The Boss, Blind Justice...

Okay - my tastes are a bit all over the board. But I find that my shows have to have one thing... some sort of male/female chemistry dynamic. I'm a sucker for a show that has that kind of characterization to it. I need strong character development, or I don't bother turning on the station.

Most TV shows are painted rather thin these days as far as character development goes. The last really good one was just cancelled this season -- Third Watch.

In this world of Reality Television, I"m glad that a lot of the classics, like Moonlighting, are coming out on DVD for us to remember and enjoy.
