In 1984, one of the greatest rockumentaries of all time was released to theaters across the country about the legendary British metal band Spinal Tap. Their rockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap, met mixed reviews at the box office, but became an instant classic when released on cable and on video and DVD. It is about time that the band who gave us fine rock albums as Smell the Glove , Break Like the Wind and Intravenous De Milo be recognized for their accomplishments in the world of rock. We remember huge songs such as "Big Bottom," "Hell Hole", "Rock and Roll Creation," "Stonehenge", "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock Ya Tonight", "Sex Farm Woman", "Heavy Duty", "Bitch School", "Christmas With the Devil", "The Majesty of Rock", and earlier classics such as "Gimme Some Money" and
"Listen To What the Flower People Are Saying". Here's to Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, Derek Smalls, and the countless members of the band who always kept the rock "on Tap"!!

Still undecided about whether they should be inducted? Here are some hints to help you consider:
Pros: They are the loudest band in existence. The raw energy, the sights, the sounds, the smells, of the Tap live. Nigel Tufnel's slide guitar with doughnuts technique has been unexcelled by any other player in the world, living or dead. Their Marshall amps go up to 11!! "That's one LOUDER, i'nn'it?" One of their biggest ballads was played in D minor, "the saddest of all keys." Their 1984 rockumentary was unique in its frank and honest portrayal of a band on the road, with or without the Stonehenge prop triptychs that were nearly trod on by dwarves. How many of you have a SIGNED copy of Smell the Glove?? It's a collector's item, you know. Nigel Tufnel bears an uncanny physical and vocal resemblance to guitar great Jeff Beck. Cons: They've lost so many drummers from spontaneous combustion onstage that it would be nearly impossible to a full-scale reunion. Bands were nearly threatening to sue when they thought the movie rockumentary was about them. Sears and K-Mart banned Smell the Glove originally due to its "sexist" album cover. They may present a threat to homeland security due to strategically wrapped produce setting off airport screener alarms. Their jazz-fusion project embarked upon Nigel's brief departure. "No, first the puppet show, THEN Spinal Tap!!" David St. Hubbins' girlfriend's suggestion that the band dress up as signs of the Zodiac. Any others? |

No doubt they deserve to be in the RRHOF, but they won't because a lot of Rock people hated the movie when it first came out, because it hit too close to home.
And the fact that they played their own instrument in the film earns them the right to be in. |

You hear that sort of thing in a lot of places. That's not my milieu. Rock and roll is good-time music. I love rock. So did my parents. |
