Smile Lovers?

Okay, I just heard an interesting point of view. According to a very gay co-worker of mine, Laverne and Shirley are lesbian lovers. And Lenny and Squiggy are as gay as a leather pinata at Ricky Martin's birthday party! He had several good arguments...

So does anybody else believe this?

My sister thinks they are too, but I think she's just making fun of my interest in older sitcoms. Anyway, I don't think they're lesbians. Yes, they have kissed a few times, but 1 time Shirl kissed Laverne because she was hysterical, they kissed once during their 10th high school reunion, but that was because Terry Budafuco (strong as an ox) hugged them and ended up pressing them against each other. One time it was in a talent show act. And Laverne kissed Rhonda when a ghost took over her body (one of the non-Shirley episodes). If they were gay, why would Shirley get married to a guy named Walter? And most of the episodes revolve around them trying to get dates and going on dates. Plus, if you ever read Garry Marshall's book, you would know that he wanted family shows (which was why there was never sex) and that wouldn't fall under the category of a family show.

"Well, Laverne is sort of childish"

"Childish? Childish? COming from a grown woman who throws tea parties for her stuffed cat!"

"Well at least I don't sew L's on everything I wear!"

"Well that would be pretty stupid considering your name's Shirley!"

Hmmm... That's interesting, because my friend once said the theme song was really gay. The part "Make our dreams come true" and "we'll do it our way" I really don't think so. I'm sorry I even mentioned it.

I dont think soooo! Whoa! THat guy you work with is a sicko! IS HE Gay? OF course they're not gay! Why would they date all those "GUYS" if they were gay? Tell that guy to wake up and smell the coffee! And just because to girls or two guys live together doesn't mean their gay...They just can't afford to have an appartment of their own!

First of all he never watched the show in his life, he just heard me singing the theme song. It's not that big a deal. Anyone can make a mistake. Could we please just drop this topic?

ProffesorFan, I think T was replying to Silentbri's post when he said that...

According to my gay co-worker, the girls where constantly trying to date men because it was set in the 50's, and they needed to keep up appearances because homosexuality was not as accepted as it is today. They where hiding a secret forbidden love in order to keep from being social pariahs.

...And yes, the theme song is kinda gay. But then again, so is just about every sitcom theme song! You can find symbolism and subliminal messages i just about *anything*, if you look hard enough!

But now about the sex-thing that LS brought up... wasn't there an episode of L&S that was all about Laverne getting really drunk and thinking she was pregnant? I think that sort of goes against Mr. Marshall's "Family Oriented" goals, doesn't it? I remember being *very* shocked when I saw that episod eon N@N.

But it had the sweetest ending! Lenny proposing to her, it was just so adorable! And then she turns out not to be pregnant and Carmine sings "Hallelujah" It's a tear-jerker!
