Question Has Anyone Going to See "The Honeymooners"?

If you love the TV show, you're going to love the movie. "The Honeymooners" which is playing in theatres right now. Has anyone going to see it? It stars Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps and Gabrielle Union. This movie is going to be more like a TV show from the 50's.

I just watched the trailer on the movie's web site...

Ralph comes in during one scene and kisses someone he thinks is Alice, who was sitting in a chair... turns out to be Alice's mother...

The real Ralph Kramden would NEVER have mistaken Alice's mother for Alice (even in the darkest possible setting).

In another scene, Norton and Ralph are hanging on for their lives on a fire escape...and Norton confesses to Ralph that he's seen Alice naked...and that he sometimes thinks about her...oh, ha ha, my side is killing me from laughing so much...

I'm sure that the real Ed had some private thoughts about Alice, but to articulate it like that... I smell desparation on the part of the movie's writers...

Doesn't sound like too many 50s sitcoms that I'VE seen... and I doubt that Ralph listed to rap music while briving the dus. The Honeymooners didn't need a sound track.

This movie is going to suck...(1) don't waste your time seeing it and (2) don't encourage them to make "Honeymooners II".

And, as I've reminded Cedric before, merely being overweight does not qualify one to play Ralph Kramden (although in this case, I guess it apparently does)... Cedric was funny in the beer commercials, but that's as far as it goes. He has no business playing Ralph Kramden... Jackie Gleason had a little thing called "talent".

I was considering going to see The Honeymooners movie but from what I read online, I now have mixed feelings about going. From what I read in the previous post and what I might see in print, it looks like the movie is going to be an insult to Honeymoonies like me.

How could they do such a thing and cast Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Kramden? It's like casting Redd Foxx (even though he's dead) in a remake of Father Knows Best. They should have cast somebody such as John Goodman, Jim Belushi or Kevin James to play Ralph instead of trying to make it more hip hop. The original was a classic thanks to the comedic talent of Jackie Gleason and the chemistry he had with Art Carney.

Whoever wrote the screenplay was probably unfamiliar with Gleason and Carney or any of the Classic 39 episodes.

I was thinking of probably seeing it, but now I don't think I will, after reading the 2 previous posts. Cedric the Entertainer was funny on those beer commercials like the previous poster said, but he was awful on the TV LAND awards, and I doubt he'll be good as Ralph Kramden.

Kevin James or John Goodman would be perfect in the role.

and, just so you can check it out for yourself, the official web site is:

http://www.honeymoonersmovie.com/

When you go there, some animation starts automatically... if you hold your cursor over Cedric, a menu will come up that says "View the Media"... that's the one which will give you the trailer I was talking about...

The ONLY thing the movie will have in common with the original series is the fact that Ralph has a scheme to get rich quick. The scheme is shown in the trailer.

The women who play Alice and Trixie in the movie are attractive. You'll recall that in the classic 39, we NEVER saw the Kramdens' bedroom... but I doubt that there'll be any mystery about what goes on in there in the movie (I don't know that for a fact, but one could certainly predict that you'll see Ralph and Alice in bed toghether...Cedric wouldn't pass up THAT chance...

In the trailer you'll even see Alice's mother deliver a line which was lifted from the original series...and she does a terrible job with it.

I'd like it if NO ONE went to see this movie... I really have no idea how the box office is going to be... there are certainly enough fans of the Classic 39 out there that wouldn't go anywhere near this movie... but there are also an awful lot of younger people out there who have no idea what the classic 39 symolizes... the best single season of any show in history, in my very, very humble opinion...

and, I don't know that the classic 39 have been on that much on cable during the past few years...I guess it ran on TV Land for a little while, and it ran (may be still running) on WPIX New York Channel 11 forever (that's a channel I grew up watching) , and I think even WGN ran it for a while... but not all cable outlets have those stations... so a lot of younger folks don't really, really know about the series...(unless their parents have the DVDs)... and that's not an insult, trust me... a lot of people just don't know... and Cedric is popular, a lot of people will see it just because he's in it...

Hopefully it'll start out slow at the box office, and will do even worse in week 2, when word of mouth gets around. Not that I don't wish ultimate success for the hard working folks involved in the movie... I just don't want to see the legacy of a classic show like that damaged by modern Hollywood... like they've done with so many other classic shows...

They shouldn't have even attempted a remake. Leave the classics alone and come up with something original, Hollywood.

I almost went to see it, but then i thought................ no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cedric and the rest of 'dem peoples are just too damned talented, if i watch it, i might've thought, "Oh, Lord, Why couldn't Cedric have been Ralph in the 50's?"

you all realize i'm kinda woozy now of course.

The only way Cedric the so-called Entertainer could fill Ralph's shoes is if he shared the same size with Jackie Gleason!

there was a review of it in our local newspaper, and they also showed a picture from it. It looks and sounds AWFUL ! The picture they showed was of the 4 of them in the Kramdens living room, and the apartment was nothing like on tne show. It was completly furnished, with a couch, chairs, wall-to-wall carpet, and a seprate kitchen! Like I said, nothing like the sparsley furnished apt. on the show, which added to the humor of it. Also, now Alice & Trixie also have jobs, which tells you how bad it is.

Cedric the Entertainer says that people who can't picture anyone but Jackie Gleason & Art Carney in the roles have nothing to worry about, but I highly doubt that!!!
Now I'm DEFINETALY not going to see it!

(the reviewer said it's HORRIBLE, by the way)

Well, looks like the Honeymooners didn't do so well at the box office this weekend....

1 Mr. & Mrs. Smith $50,342,878
2 Madagascar $17,180,801
3 Star Wars: Episode III $14,851,474
4 The Longest Yard $13,878,482
5 Sharkboy/Lavagirl $12,582,088
6 Cinderella Man $9,728,955
7 Sisterhood/Traveling Pants $5,711,420
8 The Honeymooners $5,538,835

So, I guess one of two things will happen...either people who saw it and liked it will talk it up and get more people to go next week, or it'll REALLY bomb out next weekend because of negative word-of-mouth... I gotta believe it's gonna bomb...

Let's hope there will be no Honeymooners II.... (of course, Honeymooners II could go "straight to DVD", just like any other sequel that sucks...but hopefully these meager results will discourage anyone from getting involved in that project again)

John Goodman and Jim Carrey would make a good Kramden and Norton. They both have the right builds and comedic talent. Goodman can be funny or serious and Carrey can be as goofy as he needs to be!
