Sad Susan Billig (mother of Amy Billig) died

http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradent...l/11842039.htm

I just found out that Susan Billig has died. As you know she was the daughter of Amy Billig, who disappeared in 1974. According to the article at the link above, Susan Billig died of complications from a heart attack. She was 80 years old.

It is very tragic that Susan died without ever seeing her daughter again, and without ever finding a resolution to the case. But she didn't give up without a fight. I remember seeing the Amy Billig case on both UM and America's Most Wanted, and I couldn't forget how determined Susan was to find Amy.

If any of Susan's friends or loved ones happen to be reading this, I would like them to know that they have my condolences. I'm truly sorry to hear about her death.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Billig.

What a tragedy, never finding out what happened to Amy before she passed on. Well if Amy is deceased atleast they're together now..

Default I cannot say I'm surprised

as Susan Billig was ill for several years first suffering a heart attack in the 70s and then becoming ill during the early 90s. Her husband Ned I believe also passed away in the early 90s as well. Susan Billig was an amazing woman who was courageous enough to search out every possible lead to find her daughter.

Her book "Without A Trace" is one of the best true crime novels out there and there is a bit of a resolution to the case at the end when due to a confession and some evidence to support Susan was able to at least move on with her life. The book concludes with a lovely journal entry written by Amy herself. If Amy had lived I'm sure she would have made a fine author.

Later.

True, she was ill for many years. In fact I remember seeing her on AMW about a year or so back and she stated that she had terminal cancer and was given only a few months to live. However, she outlived the doctors original expectations from what I remember.

RIP

At least she knows now what happened to her daugher.

Once again Kane does an amazing job on the updates. That link is from today and Mrs. Billig died on Tuesday.

She seemed like a very diligent and admirable woman.

I grew up in Miami and was a kid when Amy Billig disappeared. I must say I don't remember that case until Unsolved Mysteries profiled it. It would be interesting to look at back issues of the Miami Herald on microfilm to see what type of press her disappearance received. Purely on memory, it seems like cases like that didn't generate much ink or TV coverage until after the Adam Walsh incident. If it happened today, the cable channels would be all over the case within one day.

Very interesting question to think about, the coverage of her being missing. Figure in 1974 it wasn't much, with limited media.

Can you imagine today??

When someone goes missing, FOX, CNN, MSNBC, local news, Headline News, all just start massive coverage which I'm sure would've aided somewhat in Amy's disappearance.

Because I believe in a life after death, I believe that she is now finally at peace after all these years.

I hope her family knows how many people she has touched, and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

If she disappeared today she'd knock the Natalee Holloway story off the television. Beautiful woman kidnapped by a motorcycle gang, oh yeah, front page news!

I just watched this on Unsolved Mysteries, and wanted to know about the update. It's sad to hear the mother has just recently died, I was wondering what happened to Amy did they ever find her or her body? Is she still missing or was she confirmed dead?
