I seen it when it first when i was a kid. I remember being very cofused wondering how did Lamont ended up on D.C lol. Anyway I was too young to get to premise of the show until years later when I went on jumptheshark.com. He was basically a deadbeat who walked out on his family only to return years later.

I seen it for the first time on BET in the early 90's. Demond Wilson playing a Deadbeat Dad who walked out on his Family and returned 7 years later and said-"Baby I am Back"-LOL I enjoyed all 13 eps and have 12 on VHS

Demond Wilson was this guy named Ray Ellis who is a terrible husband and worse gambler. Anyway, he got in debt and the bookies was after him so he left town. 7 years later he is back and he gets a job at the track where he lost all his money and he gets an apartment down the hall from his wife. She had two kids, the daughter (Kim Fields) doesn't remember him so she likes him. The son remembers him walking out and he has a so/so reaction to him coming back.
His ex wife is involved with a nerdy high ranking military guy who works at the pentagon. It seems as though she is with this guy because he is the exact opposite of Ray.
Ray spends the show trying to get thier trust and proved to them he's changed. Helen Martin (227) is the mother in law who he trades insults with. Everytime he tries to do something nice for the kids she reminds them of all the bad stuff he did.
