Top 10 eps??? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just wrote my top 10 Moonlighting eps for another forum, so I thought I'd stop surfing here and post for a change.

I'm sure it's not a new topic but maybe the new DVDs made you rethink yours??? Even if not, I'd love to see the choices. It's so tough!!!!

It gets a little obvious at the end, but that's why those eps are great!

10. A Womb With a View -- I just didn't love many eps after Glenn left, but this is one. Bruce Willis plays "Baby Hayes," Maddie/David's love child learns about his parents in the womb. Bruce as more than a talking baby is irresistible. Season Five
9. Witness for the Execution -- I remember this being one of my very very favorites when it aired... and during all the repeats that ensued. David's cavalier attitude toward Maddie's place of business and his resolve to help an elderly lient "cash in his chips" early leads to him being accused of murder. And of course, their first real kiss. Season Two
8. Knowing Her -- Dana Delany stars as David's former flame... sort of a black widow who uses her wiles on him to "witness" the fact that she "accidentally" killed her husband. Oh yeah, my introduction to one of my top three songs of all time... the Isley Brothers' "This Ole Heart of Mine," used to perfect effect here. Season Two
7. It's a Wonderful Job -- Maddie's the perfect candidate for a 'It's a Wonderful Life' takeoff, because she thinks life would be better if she never kept the detective agency closed. Then she finds out David's living in her house with Cheryl Tiegs... even though he still has feelings for a woman he barely met when she closed the agency. Season Three
6. My Fair David -- Maddie bets David that he can't act like a mature adult for a whole week. He wins, she pays him money AND limbos... she wins, he fires two useless employees. Even worse, when she catches him singing she said he was just like Ricky Nelson. "Ricky Nelson," David exclaims. "...He's white!!!!" Even the mystery involved has suspense to it. Season Two
5. The Next Murder You Hear -- I don't think this is a biggie in 'Moonlighting' lure, but I love it. A popular overnight talk show host gets gunned down at the radio station. Maddie is repelled by his affairs, but then attracted by the way he used to speak. David's a little green... jealous of the dead man. Still there's always time for wisecracks, "Maybe he shoulda played the Shirelles," he says in reference to a crank caller hung up on during the fatal show. Season One
4. In God We Strongly Suspect -- Lots of deep themes in this one... we find out Maddie's an atheist... but David "covers her" with God by "putting a good word in for her." Don't know how guarding a dead body in a funeral home is so funny... but it is... Think David prying open the coffin and then in a funny voice "So' right? So right." OK, it doesn't work to try to explain. Season Two
3. Big Man on Mulberry Street -- Maddie finds out David was once married and that sets up a most excellent dance dream sequence in which she imagines what his wife was like. Uhhhh, she's totally off base, we'll say. And since it's her dream, of course it ends in a steamy kiss with David. Season Three
2. Atomic Shakespeare -- Brilliant use of iambic pentameter and a spoof of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Just sends up the art form like we've never seen it before. "Your dagger!!!!" Cybill as Maddie as Kate cries when Petrucchio/David falls on top of her. Season Three
1. The Dream Sequence Also Rings Twice -- Orson Welles introduces the episode, Cybill and Bruce get to play three versions of their characters (hey, it's the Moonlighting version of the X-Files' Bad Blood, another personal favorite) and it's filmed in glorious black and white before that became in vogue. Season Two

Bad Blood is also my favourite X-Files episode, though I'd never noticed how similar they are! Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Gem-

I didn't even notice that until I started typing that they play three versions of themselves. I always loved that about Bad Blood, in both cases all three are so dramatically different and it's a shot in the arm.
I bet we have similar XF faves too!

We probably do! I have watched that episode tons of times - I love the recount about the sheriff and his buck teeth! It's a really funny episode - the X-Files were really good at doing funny episodes. I liked Humbug as well, which of course featured Vincent Schiavelli, from the ML episode Next Stop Murder. Do I remember correctly that Allyce Beasley married him?

Dream Sequence also reminded me a bit of the episode Triange, in the way that they go back in time to World War 2 using the dream sequence thing. There are lots of similarities between the two shows.

I don't think I ever knew about Allyce and Vincent... that would make sense, I was literally JUST watching the murder train ep and they have some serious chemistry going on.

OK, I've hijacked my Moonlighting Top 10 thread to add my X-F Top 10. As you can see Triangle is there too. And it does make a lot of sense that there are similarities -- like the DVDs profess, it's an emotion-driven character piece and that's prob why I liked a detective show when I didn't previously and why I liked a sci-fi show when I didn't like those previously either. What's yours Gem (and anyone else who wants in... but you owe us a Moonlighting 10 too!)?

ooof, that's a tough one cause I haven't watched it in a while and I don't know all the names of all the later episodes. I stopped watching it during later seasons. I'm not sure that I can give you ten, but I'll tell you some of my favourites.

Ok, I just took a look at my videos and turns out I have more favourites than I thought! 10 should be easy! So here goes:

10 - Humbug - we're exhuming your potato!!! lmao!
9 - War of the Coprophages - Her name is Bambi?!
8 - The Field Where I Died - I cried at this episode!
7 - Memento Mori - OMG, I cried (again!) so much at this episode! So sad!
6 - Hollywood AD - All my favourites seem to be the funny ones! But this is just hilarious - I love it when Tea Leoni is running the background and Scully's showing her how to run in heels! And that split screen when the tree of them are on the phone.
5 - Dod Kalm - the way they make them look old is amazing!
4 - The Ghosts who Stole Christmas - this is a great episode! Love it!
3 - Dreamland 1+2 (is that cheating?!) - This one's really funny too - when that bloke tries to seduce Scully, posing as Mulder! And Mulder dancing in the mirror. But it's really sad when they're saying goodbye in the road.
2 - Post Modern Prometheus - This is the one with the disfigured guy who's obsessed with Cher, yeah? I love this one. It's ridiculous, and funny and has my favourite Cher song - Gypsies, Tramps and Theives!
1 - Bad Blood - hilarious, definately my favourite episode.

And I have to add that one where they go undercover as a married couple in a Stepford Wives-like street. But I can't remember the name of it. I liked a lot of the ones you named too, but didn't have room for everything in my top 10! Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose only just missed out to Humbug. I really liked Jose Chung too, but not enough to put it in my top 10. I love the bit at the end when they're all reading the book and he's changed all the names.

I was going to watch some Moonlighting tonight while doing some marking, but I may well get my x-files tapes out now!

Yeah, it's like Moonlighting, you have to leave fave stuff out! I love the Dreamlands and War of the Coprophages and Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and Small Potatoes and Post Modern Prometheus. I loved Monday, the one like Groundhog's Day too. Hollywood AD is def. a lot of fun too.
That other one you're thinking of is Arcadia.
