I'm ashamed to say I don't know how many seasons it ran for, but check out the rest of this site; it's really informative. As for what happened on the last episode, it centered around Alex, of course, who got a job on Wall Street and left the family to pursue his fortune. Don't know what happened to the other characters.

Ties ran for 7 seasons (82-89). And as Winnie said, he took a job on Wall Street, and the final episode was an awkward ongoing catfight between Elise and Alex about his glee of leaving everyone behind for better pastures. He made the rounds with everyone with one-on-one scenes of them offering him advice. The girls wanted to turn his room into something else, Steven game him cliche`d words of wisdom, he had Nick do a mock proposal to Skippy (as Mallory), and he and Elise clashed over everything (no seen with Andrew). The final moment everyone lined up and shook hands with him (he didn't want a mushy scene) but ultimately stepped back thru the door after he left and they all hugged. Hope that's enough for ya, hehe.

And even his ex-girlfriend Lauren showed up to wish him luck, even though they had broken up several episodes earlier.

This was also the episode where Jennifer revealed to Alex that "I'm starter than you." Alex then quizzed Jen with random questions about politics, geography, etc. and she answered them all without blinking. Too funny.

I always thought it was strange that there was no sceen with Andy, since they were so close. Maybe that went along with the no mushy goodbye thing, but... Anyone else think so?

To me, the fewer scenes with Andy, the better. The show really started to head downhill when he showed up as a five-year-old. In the immortal words of Mary Tyler Moore, when she was asked about kids on sitcoms, "If any cute kids show up on this show, we're going to hit them over the head with a mallet."

Agreed. Like I said in another thread, I liked the episodes without Andy MUCH better. When he was a baby they were okay, but not when he started having storylines and the like!
