Was anyone else glad to see the Flinstones meet the Jetsons? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Growing up I would say to myself-"it would sure be nice to see the Flinstones meet the Jetsons" and it actually happened. Two of my favorite cartoons of all time.

Before I answer, a comment: Solomon (that IS you, isn't it? With all these name changes, it's sometimes hard to tell...), I've never known you to post on these cartoon boards before...it's good to have you here!! (Man, you stay away from a site for a few months and the whole world changes on you!!)

You know, when I was younger, I thought the Flintstones meeting the Jetsons would have been a cool idea, too.

But then I saw the actual team-up, and I must say I was somewhat underwhelmed.

While the Jetsons came off as the same space-age family they've always been, some of the characterizations of the Flintstone cast seemed a little off (since when does Betty Rubble speak with a Brooklyn accent? And what was up with Fred's "yabba-dabba, friend" nonsense? And no Fred clocking on George? Hell, what's the point?)

But, the thing happened, and other people seemed pleased with the whole enterprise, so who am I to complain, eh?

If these goobers wanted to unite two of my favorite cartoon series together, would it have killed them to use a bit more imagination?? Wilma and Jane comparing notes on how they kept their husbands out of trouble? Slate and Spaceley comparing note about keeping their employees in line? An Astro/Dino/Hoppy catastrophe? ALL MISSED OPPORTUNITIES!!

But that's just me...

I thought it was a horrible special. The Flintstones became too watered down. Alan Reed was the only true voice of Fred Flintstone.

Well, I think the reason the Jetson's seemed the same was because their show (the new episodes made in the 80's) was still on the air.

Betty's voice was absolutely horrible in this movie. It wasn't even close to being a sad imitation.

I thought the movie was pretty cool. I can still remember going to the video store when I was 8 years old and seeing the tape - I thought, "The Jetsons actually meet the Flintstones? COOL!!!!!"

I watched it a lot when I was young- I thought it was really good. I didn't really like the Jetsons when I was young but in this I thought they were great. I always liked the Flintstones already.

The whole concept sounds amazingly stupid to me , but then, HB cartoons were in the toilet at the time anyway, so it fits

Remember the episode from the original series when Gazzo sent the Flintstones into the future? It looked like the Jetsons without the Jetsons.

I have to agree with Passionsfan79. I like THE JETSONS MEET THE FLINTSTONES. Of course, Alan Reed was the definitive Fred Flintstone, but
this direct-to-video movie (or was it a TV-movie?) was made many years after Reed's death. To his credit, Corden did in the beginning try to imitate Reed's voice. Later, though, he developed what he called his own style. (Has anyone seen the episode of the original series in which Corden played Fred's loud-mouth neighbor? Interesting confrontation there between the two
Freds. I liked the scene in THE JETSONS MEET THE FLINTSTONES when
Dino and Astro sniff noses for the first time. An iconic moment in animation.
