Why was Lamont still living with his father??

I know without Lamont it wouldn't be a show but I always wondered why a 30 something year old man still live in the same roof as his father. Has he always been staying with his father or was it addressed that he had his own place but later moved back in with his father to take care of him?

I think because everytime Lamont said he was going to leave, Fred would say something like"What about me?, What about me?, What if something bad happens to me?"
Lamont probably always got guilted into staying.
Remember the time Lamont was playing a joke on Fred and said he was going to marry Julio's sister and move to St. Louis? Or when he said he was going to marry Betty-Jean?

Actually a lot of people do - especially with more elderly or ill parents. I lived with my mother until I was 36 (even had her move in with my husband and I when we got married) until I had to put her in a nursing home.

Also, I know a guy who was 49 and living in the basement of his father's house (until his father's recent death).

I have another friend who had been living on his own, but circumstances forced him to move back in with his widowed mother to care for the house's upkeep and all.

It's actually even more common today than it was when S&S was on.
