....why both boys were named Pete?

As I understand it, they weren't planning to have two brothers in the beginning, but only one boy and a dog. But they were so impressed with both these boys, that they both were put on the show, and they both got to keep the name "Pete".

Since they both look the same with red hair it would be easy and lazy for the parents to remember them as pete and pete
