I whole heartedly agree with you. This generation of movie writers and moguls have no imagination, due to being the television generation. But don't look to the next generation either to do any better, they are the genration of reality television. I can only imagine what they come up with. Survior the movie PT. 102!

I'm gonna write movies someday and I'm totally making them original. I'm not TOTALLY against making movies out of shows and stuff already made...but it does get old. And no way in hell will there ever be a reality movie while I'm in existance. *reality movie comes out and dies*

If a person can write a good and unique screenplay of a movie based on a t.v.
show, then more power to them. |

I've come up with a lot of original ideas for films and that doesn't include biopics. I would never dream of making a movie that is a remake of a classic TV show or another movie.

I take it you're not going to see the "Honeymooners" remake starring Cedrick "I'll never turn down a script" The Entertainer?

movies based on tv shows are a mixed blessing IMO. they almost always suck and don't compare to the show that spawned it, but... for the fans, it always guarentees TV-DVD's for those shows. Hell, look at The Dukes Of Hazzard, it was originally scheduled for Memorial Day, so Warner rushed out season 3 on May 31 just for it, then it got pushed back to August, so season 4 will be out August 2 in time for the movie, and I'm sure they will release season 5 in time for the DVD of the movie. Whether the DOH movie is good or not is irrelevant, the fact that the movie is being made works for fans of the show, who are getting plenty of DVD's of it.
Starsky And Hutch is another example that a movie helped with the DVD's. |

Miami Vice tv show is gonna be remade into a movie starring Colin Farrell & Jamie Foxx playing Don Johnson & Philip Michael Thomas. I wanna see how this turns out because i was a fan of Miami Vice. I think the movie will be good but i don't like seeing tv shows being remade into movies either. Starsky & Hutch movie wasn't that bad.

If they shouldn't be making movies based on t.v. shows, then they shouldn't be making them based on video games either.

I think the Bewitched movie looks good- the storyline means it's not claiming to be a direct adaptation of the tv show- so fans won't be outraged, and at the same time is paying homage,
I'd hate some reality TV show getting a movie- though I can't really see how that's possible. Although ages ago Gwyneth Paltrow supposedly said she'd do a film version of 'Big Brother' for the big screen- that's all we need, entirely scripted reality shows! |
