just wondering if anyone was watching the news last evening? over 16,000 people downloaded star wars episode 3: revenge of the sith just merely hours after its release in theatres. now normaly when downloading a movie still in theatres you get a hidous version where someone physicly uses a camcorder and tripod then records a theatre screen for the entire movie. once complete they usualy upload for the entire world to see and share throught share sites. the result is usualy crummy picture and average audio at best.
HOWEVER, this time around a "WORKPRINT" DVD ISO image of the recent star wars was uploaded on-line. They are saying the workprint could have leaked from ONLY 1 place, Lucas studios. Availiable on any of your favorite bit torrent sites. the picture quality of the print is quite amazing! NOT 100% perfection dvd (after all its a workprint) BUT damn close! it was also transcoded in dolby digital 2.0. the one downfall? because its a work print the "time code bar" is visible throughout the movie. a MINOR inconvience. depending on interent speed and number of users after the 3.4 gig file, you can expect about a 16 hour download time. thats on a GOOD connection (65-75 kb/per sec.) all i can say is "WOW! UNREAL THE POWER OF THE FORCE.....RRRR....I MEAN INTERNET!" naturaly george lucas would NOT comment. ![]() id still HIGHLY RECOMEND seeing this one in the theatres! well worth the price of admission. dont be cheap! buy some corn as well

16,000 downloads in the first few hours alone!
i DON'T dis-agree with you. it CAN happen! it has happened, but for them to go after that many people, doubtfull! starwars still avaliable on several bit torrent sites. its tough to police millions and millions of users. thats the whole problem with the internet. just too wide spread and cyber crime is out of control at the very least, if your going to download such a thing from share sites then atleast DISGUISE your IP adress or mirror one. hope all works well for your friend |

The original Star Wars was bootlegged shortly after it debuted, and the FBI confiscated a lot of people's collections to track down (and crack down) on the bootleggers - not just every tape they had (no DVDs in 1977-78), but equipment, too. And I never heard of anyone getting their stuff back. Much as I'd love to have a copy to watch at home over and over again (after loving it in the theatre), this is one film I'll wait for on legitimate disc.
I'll never understand why the studios don't understand that for a blockbuster like this, if they released a barebones disc at the time of the theatre release, they'd make even more money, not less. |

A friend of mine got a hold of that "workprint" copy with the timecode. He said the quality is excellent.

yup the workprint copy has excellent quality. it does however, have that time code bar running at the top of the screen throught the entire movie. NOT realy a big deal!
there is now a newer version floating around on the net in DIVX format. the quality is even BETTER then the workprint. in the DIVX version there is NO timecode either! whats even stranger is when the movie starts and the STARWARS story line scrolls up, the writing is in some FORIEGN language, yet the audio of the entire film is english. go figure! im still astonished that such material would leak on-line before it even hit theatres. i think the big deal is the fact that the print is of GOOD quality. NOT one of those cheap tripod/video camera uploads |

i will admit that the last 3 star wars movies have been a collection of special effects loosely tied by a flimsy story
