Default I have a racoon in my back yard

Last night my family was watching TV and I heard someone eating my cat's food outside. I went to see if it was Louise (my cat) and I saw it was a racoon. It was a pretty big one, too. We forgot to bring Louise's food in so it decided to eat the rest.

I was on vacation over the weekend and we left food for Louise since we were only going to be gone Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday. That racoon probably emptied out the whole thing.

Does anyone have any racoons, skunks, or wild animals residing in your yard?

I've seen a few possums run across the road.

We currently have at least 8 rabbits living on our property. They burrow under the decking around the pool. Personally, I love them around and luckily this year, they've left my gardens alone. I've even witnessed a couple of "Bunny Brawls" with the males fighting over females this spring. I'm sure to see lots of little goobers running around soon!

We also had a couple of raccoons living in our pool shed a couple of winters ago. What a MESS!!! Normally I wouldn't mind, but they used our cabbana as a toilet and you've never smelled anything quite as bad!!

We also had three of them peak into our family room one night. It was pretty cool seeing three sets of eyes in masks looking at you. Freaked my cats right out!

We also have coyotes not too far away, but none have ever come into our neighbourhood directly that I know of.

We also get skunks, groundhogs, etc..

I've named the chipmunks, squirrels and birds that are regulars. I'd like to get rid of the lone crow that's been harrassing everyone this year tho!

If you don't mind, send some of those critters over to my place! We don't have anything nearly as exciting as that!

*sigh* I've lived a childhood devoid of big trees and wild animals...

They'll have to take me away from here kicking and screaming!!
Here's a pic from Oct 2001 when a chipmunk showed up. Sure keeps the kitties amused! Note the water dish I put out for my "outdoor pets". On the far side of the deck is a pond - hasn't been used in a few years, but we used to keep Koi goldfish in it. Our pool is off to the right. Only a very small portion of the yard. I like to keep it fairly naturalized and let it over grow somewhat.

No wonder you've got so many critters romping around your home! Your back yard is a veritable jungle! Very beautiful and that chipmunk is so cute! Those cats look as though they have sinister plans hatching...

My dream home will have a garden similar to that. Something with lots of green... far, far, far away from here! I'm sick of the dessert and sicker of the city. Wouldn't be so bad if I could see the occasional wild animal. I haven't even seen an owl in years!

To the future! Trees, flowers and wildlife galore!

Being that i live right on the river, we have tons of duck around here. All different sizes and colors. They are always coming up to everyones patios looking for a handout.

Cool! But the poop isn't much fun - bigger than I would have thought! It's like having small dogs!! A duck was in our pool last week - I've heard of other people getting them but that's a first for us. He wasn't too thrilled when I surprised him taking a bath!

Yeah, I had lived in apts. since the age of 8 when we moved up here so it was heaven for me - I think that's why I like it more on the "wild" side! Those grape leaves (the big ones) are my favourites. They really fill in the fence and give you total privacy. We just have to worry about the planes that fly overhead from a small airport to the south but they're fun to watch and wave to (they wave their wings back).
One cat is missing from that picture - she's off to the side. They have a blast just watching. We used to let them out, but the orange one brought home a rabbit one day and that was the end of that. We get Blue Jays, Cardinals, Nuthatches, Crows, Chickadees, Goldfinches, and bats - other birds that I can't even name. Haven't seen an owl, but they're more in the wooded areas. We're in a small subdivision.
I would love to live in Arizona for a while, but aren't too fond of scorpions! Don't you still get coyetes and wolves in the dessert areas? Armadillos?

Yeah, I was throwing some bread down from my balcony for them to eat and my downstairs neighbor came out and asked if I could throw the bread further out because the ducks kept pooping on her patio, so apparently the people on the first floor are having problems with the ducks but I like having them around.

Ordinarily, there would be desert creatures. But our city paved over all that good stuff. Some areas have more wildlife than others. It is a favorite complaint of mine that a nature lover such as myself would be born into the most critterless area.

Rumor has it there are prairie dogs living in an empty lot near my house. Every member of my family has seen one, except me. I even went on an all day hunt for them a few years back. I'm begining to suspect they are a myth.
