anyone know how to cook these good? i always end up over cooking the yoke and pretty much just making a fried egg. i'm cooking breakfast tommorow for jonathan, it's his first day back (for those of you who know what happened in his wreck) so i told him i'd make him a big breakfast. any suggestions for how to make these stupid eggs w/ out screwing them up?

Frying eggs is tricky. I heard that it's best if the eggs are room temperature. Get the pan good and hot with melted butter over a medium flame....if you fried bacon, it's even better to cook the eggs in that pan. I crack the eggs with a knife. When the edges start to bubble, it's time to turn them, and it only takes a few minutes. Use a flipper and make sure you get the entire egg on the utensil and gently flip it.
If I blow it and break the yolk, I put another egg in the pan. Eggs are cheap. I use brown jumbo eggs. Make sure frying the eggs is the last thing you do because they cook so quick. Have your toast, bacon, pancakes and everything all ready. All this, and I hate eggs. I cook them for my husband on weekends though. Good luck.

I get weird stares from people when I tell them that...I LOVE the smell of eggs cooking, but the taste is TERRIBLE. I know, I know. Crazy, right?

This is my specialty dish! My husband LOVES my bacon and eggs. Sorry I saw the thread too late, but since you're marrying him, you'll need to know for the future anyway!
Yeah, eggs are best done in the bacon grease. I usually cook my bacon at a lower, slower pace so it doesn't get too crispy. Once I've got the bacon done, I put it on a pan lined with a papertowel and put it in the oven at around 200 degrees just to keep warm (same with the toast). Then I turn up the heat a bit for the eggs. Break them into the area where the grease pools most. Cook until the runny white is almost completely cooked. Lift and turn over and let cook for only about another 30 - 60 seconds. I also put pepper on the eggs while they're cooking. While they're cooking you can get up the bacon and toast onto a plate (again, I preheat the plates in the oven - helps the eggs stay warm but doesn't cook them anymore). I also make up homefries on the side. Boy what a feast on the weekend! Now my mouth's watering for some!! Love eggs, not big on the whites which isn't great cuz its the yolks that aren't great for you. I'll even make bacon and eggs for dinner sometimes. |

Yeah, thankfully Frank likes them overcooked too so when I screw up it doesn't matter! He doesn't mind broken eggs, but because I get his up first, they're usually perfect, and I'll break mine - which I hate. I usually let out a barrage of swear words and he knows exactly what happened! I'm sure it was great for him just to be home and have you make him a great breakfast! And don't ever let him know that hash browns (or homefries) aren't all that tough to make!! Glad to hear he's on the mend Melissa! One thing about it, if you guys HAD to have an accident, at least the timing wasn't too bad - you'll have the summer still! |
