Does anyone know of any updates to the murder of David Merrifield?David Merrifield was a real estate agent that was found dead in an elevator one morning by two co-workers. It was known by his secretary that he had an early morning appointment that day with a man named "Sam Jones". No one knew who this "Sam Jones" was and no one heard from him again after David was found dead in the elevator. It is suspected that this "Sam Jones" murdered David Merrifield, but no one knows why. |

From the UM wikia page for this case:
Solved. In 2007, the prime suspect in David's murder committed suicide. Police did not publicly identify him, but have since closed the case. I don't know if you can truly consider the case to be solved, but it's closed nonetheless. |

David Merrifield's niece posted on here about 6 years ago. She said she appreciated the concern about the case but didn't want to discuss it indepth. Here is what she wrote:
Hello everyone. I am David Merrifield's niece. I want to thank everyone for their interest in and concern for my uncle's murder case. I do understand that people wish to know 'what happens in the end' and I can say with confidence that the man who gunned down my uncle is dead. He had been diagnosed with a terminal disease and subsequently committed suicide. From the standpoint of the family, at least some form of justice (or perhaps karma) has been served. Again, I thank everyone for the concern- I am deeply appreciative that after so much time has passed, people would still care about justice for my wonderful Uncle David.
