This time next year in 2006 could be a year we see a lot of sitcoms depart:
Will and Grace - I can't see it lasting over 8 seasons, I am surprised it came back for another season. King of Queens - I can't see this show going 9 seasons, but it could happen with the move back to Mondays. That 70s Show - With a lot of the cast gone and ratings dropping, you can bet next year will be its last. Malcolm in the Middle - a move to Friday Nights is almost a kiss of death, FOX has never had a successful Friday Night. Yes, Dear - Yes, Dear's 9 lives may come to an end next year since it was originally suppose to wrap up this past year. Scrubs - being a midseason replacement can almost guarantee next year will be its last. Bernie Mac - they only had 16 episodes this past year, plus being of Fridays could definately end it next year. Girlfriends - it will have been on six years next year and I can't see a UPN comedy lasting any longer. What I Like About You - a bubble for this year's Fall Lineup, plus it will have a syndication deal as of next year. Less than Perfect - huge shocker this one came back for another season, plus being a midseason replacement won't help matters any. Still Standing - a move to Wednesdays will not help, plus it was rumored it might not make another season this past year. Arrested Development - if it does not find an audience on Mondays, you can expect it will be gone. All of Us - almost cancelled this past year, if ratings do not improve, it will be gone. Rodney - I doubt it will gain an audience next year, so I doubt it will be given another season. |

I really can't see Girlfriends making another season. No UPN sitcom has ever lasted more than 5 seasons, if only because the network is cheap and doesn't like to negotiate liscensing fees.
As bad as the sitcoms situation is this upcoming season, it's going to be a whole lot worse in 06/07 if there aren't any breakouts next season. Consider this: these are the only sitcoms to perform above their network averages this season: WB: Reba UPN: Girlfriends NBC: Joey, Will & Grace (but not later in the season) CBS: ELR, Two & A Half Men ABC: None Fox: None. 6 total. That's sad. |

Here's the sitcoms I think will be dead and buried by 2006:
Will and Grace- It should've ended last season. And plus it'll have 200+ episodes by 2006, so consider it dead. That '70s Show- Topher and Ashton are gone, so what's the point? Yes Dear- Do I NEED to say why? Girlfriends- The second and last UPN show to break the five season rule IMO. One on One- Which is exactly why this show is dead in the water. I think LTP will be the Yes Dear of this coming season, which I definitely don't mind, being a huge fan. Arrested Development and Scrubs both I see coming back after 2006, though I wouldn't mind seeing Scrubs go because five seasons is a good run for a show that's been moved a gazillion (but doesn't every critically acclaimed NBC sitcom get moved every other week?) Lastly, MARK MY WORDS: Jake in Progress's new episode's will never air. EVER. On any occasion. Not even Saturdays or on New Year's Eve. Not EVER. |

I think Less Than Perfect will come into its midseason replacement spot, and probably not last long. They will probably have to burn off their remaning episodes next summer. It was ABC's lowest rated sitcom this season, and I still cannot understand why it was renewed. It couldn't even hold the skimpy ratings from Hope and Faith, why should it do better in a different time slot ?
Jake might do better in a new time slot. Also, Rodney is very underrated in the ratings. It was ABC's second highest rated sitcom, and always held the ratings from According to Jim. ABC could have put a new sitcom in the plum time slot behind Jim this season, but chose to keep Rodney there. I think it could survive. |

I think Jake In Progress will be this seasons Tru Calling.
Fox ordered a second season of TC last year, and then suddenly abruptly cancelled production after 6 episodes were filmed before the season started airing, and then they waited until April to burn the episodes off.... by that time everybody remotely interested in Tru Calling had given up on it. |

I notice some of you havn't been paying attention to FOX statements..
Next Season IS the last of "That 70s Show "...It was planned to end before Topher & Ashton announced they wouldnt be back..until the Final episode... I think... 'Living With Fran' will be gone-unless they score Mikalah (from AI4) and she brings some new viewers....Stunt Casting..... |

I did not realize Less than Perfect was the lowest rated ABC sitcom from this past year even lower than Complete Savages.
How in the hell did it earn a midseason spot and 8 Simple Rules and My Wife and Kids are buried when they were almost on everyone's Fall Lineups. |

In viewers, H&F ranked 94th, 8SR 98th, LTP 105th and CS 106th. They were all pretty close. MW&K ranked 89th (it's also been losing viewers for three seasons now) The difference is in adults, where H&F ranked 93rd, LTP 98th, CS 110th, and 8SR 116th. You also have to look at where series are in their runs and how much gas they have left. The peak of 8SR was clearly in it's first season- viewers sampled it, made their decision, and some of them stuck around, many didn't. MW&K is much the same situation where viewers have already made their decision about the series. When a show gets to that point, it's extremely hard to bring viewers back. LTP, on the other hand, has gone unsampled and unnoticed so far and still has potential left. If I were ABC, I would have cancelled H&F too- a show that people have sampled and rejected, despite Kelley's incessant promotion on the morning show. |

I've never even watched the show, but I am tired of hearing how badly LTP sucks. Those who are slamming it seriously forget that Angela (Sassette) and TVAdam are both big fans of the show. Bitching and bitching and bitching about it coming back makes it less enjoyable for them to be happy it's coming back.

King of Queens will be back for another year especially if Yes, Dear and Still Standing end.

the only reason anybody I know watched What I Like About You is because of Nick Zano's looks.
I love Leslie Grossman but feel that she is wasted on the series. She was fantastic as Mary Cherry on Popular. |
