Default Sherman Hemsley

Sherman mentioned that when he was first contacted by Norman Lear to star in All in the Family, he thought he was being contacted to star in Sanford and Son. So if he was casted to be on S&S, what role do you think he could have played?

A)Friend of Lamont?
B)Friend of Fred?
C)Aunt Esther's Husband?

I think he could have pulled off the role of woody.

I could definitely see him playing a friend of Fred. I would love to see these two comic greats rubbing shoulders and drinking beers with one another. Solomond, do you know if Redd Foxx and Sherman Helmsley ever met?

It's Solomon-lol I don't know if they ever met but I assume they did since they were both very Famous. Sherman sounded like he was Disappointed he wasn't called for Sanford and Son-lol I could really see him and Esther as a couple.

I'm not sure if Sherman would have passed for a 32 year old-lol Even on the Jeffersons he was playing the role of a 46 year old so playing Lamont Sanford would have been difficult with his receding hairline

Sherman Helmsley and Lawanda Page actually went at it on a couple of episodes of "Amen". Ironically, Whitman Mayo guest starred on there too as Lawanda's husband. eeeewwwww!! LOL

I am surprised you never knew that. It was during the last season of Amen. Check TVTome.com, you will see it.

Nope, i think I stopped watching Amen once I entered Highschool which was the fall of 89. I only watched it in 87 and 88.

I could be wrong, but I think Sherman Hemsley and LaWanda Page did play husband and wife on an episode of Love Boat. He was a sausage man and they fought it out until they got stuck in the elevator.

Yes they did in October of 1977. See I told everyone that Sherman could have played the role of Woody on Sanford and Son. They played a couple twice and I never even knew.
