Default I wonder if Harlem was supposed to be the setting for Good Times because.........

The Evans always made references to New York City but never the city of Chicago. There were always several references to Harlem and a couple to the Empire State Building. Shouldn;t that have been the Sears Tower instead of the Empire State Building?-lol

If Eric Monte hadn't created it, it probably would have been more approprate to set it in Harlem. She worked for Maude in New York(yes, it is a spinoff of Maude) and they were poor, I'm assuming. If they were poor as hell, why did they go from Harlem, to the southside of Chicago with no explanation?

This show definitely should've taken place in Harlem. Eric Monte blurred the lines of GT being a spinoff of Maude because of it.

Good God folks. I imagine most of us are in our 20's and 30's. Let us try to be bit more mature. We gotta stop being selfish and doggone snippety. Anyway, I was wondering myself if the show originally was going to take place in New York. In many ways, I wish it had. It would have been a smoother transition rather than the fragmented way that things were left. On "Maude", James got a promotion at his job and said Florida did not have to work. Had "Good Times" used NYC as the base, then James could have been laid off while Florida had that "operation" that they made references to in the first season. These two factors could come into play as far as their financial setbacks go.

What's going on, PLBrown. This is ThomasE one of your moderators for the boards. I'll bet when you saw that post, you were a little shocked. LOL! I do apologize about that. A belated welcome to the boards. Keep it cool on the boards, TSA/SOL/RTVC. We do not want to scare off people with raging comments.
