Kylie Minogue diagnosed with breast cancer
Australian pop star, 36, to seek immediate treatment

Australian singer Kylie Minogue, seen in a November 2003 concert in London, was preparing to join the Australian Showgirl Tour before being diagnosed with early breast cancer.

The Associated Press
Updated: 3:50 a.m. ET May 17, 2005 SYDNEY, Australia - Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo immediate treatment, her management team said.

Her tour of Australia was postponed following the announcement.

A statement from Minogue’s management said the 36-year-old’s diagnosis was confirmed this week during a visit to the southern Australian city of Melbourne.

“Whilst at home in Melbourne with her family this week prior to her Australian Showgirl Tour, Kylie was diagnosed with early breast cancer,” the statement said.

In the statement, Minogue said: “I was so looking forward to bringing the Showgirl tour to Australian audiences, and am sorry to have to disappoint my fans. Nevertheless, hopefully all will work out fine and I’ll be back with you all again soon.”

The Showgirl Tour was to have included performances in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth over the next month.

So sorry to hear that. At least it was found early on and she can make a quick recovery.

Kylie Minogue Battling Breast Cancer
Tue, May 17, 2005, 09:05 AM PT
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue announced on Tuesday, May 17 that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has postponed her Showgirl tour to undergo treatment.

On her website, www.kylie.com, the "Can't Get You Out of My Head" singer's management states that the "early breast cancer" diagnosis was confirmed while she was visiting family in Melbourne.

"I was so looking forward to bringing the Showgirl tour to Australian audiences, and am sorry to have to disappoint my fans," says Minogue. "Nevertheless, hopefully all will work out fine and I'll be back with you all again soon."

The 36-year-old entertainer has already taken her tour through Europe and was scheduled to begin her Australian performances on Thursday, May 19. The Showgirl tour featured Minogue in elaborate Vegas-style costumes and pop songs from throughout her career.

Minogue first entered showbiz on the Aussie soap "Neighbors." In the '80s she made a splash with her Little Eva remake of "Locomotion," which launched her into international pop stardom. She's been in and out of the spotlight throughout her career and enjoyed a recent revival with her album "Fever" that featured the tracks "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "More More More."

The diminutive star, who has also become a gay icon, has also appeared on the big screen in "The Delinquents," "Street Fighter," "Bio-Dome" and "Moulin Rouge!"

this is sad, Kylie is one of the only mainstream artists out right now not afraid to make actual dance music. I hope she makes it okay.

Ironically, I have a friend who is a huge Olivia Newton-John fan who says that a lot of Australians have always considered Kylie "the new ONJ". Like Kylie, ONJ was diagnosed with breast cancer years and years ago, and survived and has become a spokeswoman for battling the disease.

That's sad, she's still quite young. She'll probably beat the disease, though. Many women do.
