Default Lucy Meets Patty Duke

OK, so THAT episode never happened. Why did Lucy hate Patty Duke so much. Was it because of Patty's illness, or did Lucy think that no woman was good enough for her son? She really seemed to be anti- Patty Duke.

To be fair, Lucy didn't know anything about Patty's illness. And for that matter, neither did Patty at that time. Lucy's displeasure with Patty stemmed from the fact that, as soon as Patty entered Desi Jr.'s life, she brought nothing but scandal and bad press to the family. With Patty around, Lucy and her family were constantly being thrust on the front pages of the tabloids.

It was mostly the age difference, Desi being 16 and Patty a 20-something divorced woman.

We'll never know for sure if Sean is Desi's son, as Duke seemed to suggest.

I believe a DNA test was done a few years ago, and the test revealed Sean wasn't Desi's son. I have an article about it somewhere.

That would be an interesting read, I did read Duke's autobiography Call Me Anna which was pretty good.

who's Sean, and who's Duke? If you mean John Wayne, what's he have to do with Lucy or Patty Duke? Or Desi Jr. for that matter?

Patty had an illness? I never knew that! What was it, and when did it happen?

Patty Duke is manic depressive, and she first went public about having this illness around 15 years ago. She's been VERY public about it and has testified before Congress (not that this current Congress gives a rip about such silly things as people's health).

Duke stated in "Call Me Anna" that Sean was in fact John Astin's son, although she was not yet married to Astin. Sean stated in his autobiography that his biological father is not Astin but instead is Patty's second husband, whose name I cannot recall at the moment, maybe was Michael Tell, although Patty stated in "Call Me Anna" that that marriage was never consummated, so there's some disagreement there, other than they both state that Sean is definitely not Desi Arnaz Jr's son.

Sean Astin, Patty Duke's son. Patty Duke, not John Wayne.

Actually, I believe Patty Duke's life at the time she met Desi Jr. was in utter chaos. Her manic depressive state was well known in Hollywood, and when Lucy got wind of it, she was not happy. She did not want Desi Jr. associating with her because she was like a loaded gun.

I recall an early National Enquirer with a pic of Patty and Desi and Lucy with little Sean, I think coming home from the hospital after she gave birth. Lucy's face in the pic --so STRESSED and strained and upset

The text read that Desi spoke lovingly of Sean's "Lebonesque eyes" What? Or something to that effect, some ethnic-look being ascribed to Sean's eyes.

Lucy was PEEVED all right.
But Patty Duke has been manic-depressive all right.
Later on, she recanted, saying that she WASN'T, after going all over the place, on Phil Donahue, in Congress, etc, talking about it.
She IS.

Desi Jr seemed a nice guy, loving her like that.
John Astin is also a nice guy, giving Sean his name, raising him.
