Default Jack and Janet Hooking up - Would it ruin The Show?

We kind of talked about this on another thread, but not much. And what I'm about to ask would make it go all off topic, so I decided to open a new post. On the aforementioned post (Finale on Tonight!), it was said how there was a sprinkling of episodes where Jack and Janet were once again dancing around their 'relationship.' That would have been great if it happened, but how would it change the show? The trio's relationship? The trio's relationship with Larry and Furley?

Also...I know a lot of us have written -- or at least read -- fanfics where Jack and Janet admit their feelings for each other, but it's always in the midst of something big. In real life, there aren't always 'perfect moments.' So, In all honesty and with wishful thinking aside, how do you think Jack and Janet would have made the transition to "more than friends." If it is directly after or in correlation to an episode, could you tell a line or scene or moment that might prove the point? Interested to see what we come up with! Maybe it'll sprout more fics! You can never have enough, right?

Some episodes where I think the transition could've been made easily were "Some of that Jazz" or "Mate for Each Other".....when I see those episodes, I just think, 'Wow, this would've been a perfect opportunity for things to develop!'

But, then again, I do like the whole "will they, won't they?" element the show has always had, the build-up of sexual tension. I could take it either way. I do value their relationship as a friendship as well, because they really were such great friends.

Hmm, I don't know if I could see the episode as being much different. I speculate that the show might have focused more on Jack and Janet, and not on the other characters as much. The whole "gay" scenario with Jack and Furley(or Jack and Mr. Roper, for that matter) would've had to have been tossed out(unless it was a secret relationship). Larry couldn't have hooked Jack up with so many girls throughout the run of the show. The more I think about it, the more I believe Jack and Janet probably shouldn't have hooked up until the last month or so of taping....just so it wouldn't ruin the whole premise of the show But I do like the idea of them as a couple.

I agree w/all you said!!! I think the show was great w/the 'Will they , won't they' question but the ENDING...THE FINAL SHOULD HAVE def BEEN JACK AND JANET TOGETHER!!! But through the run of the show I think it was great who they would make the audience think well maybe they will or maybe they won't or they are and save the final for the offical announcement or like the last 5 episodes. I think Jack and Janet and Jack's mom would have been super!

I never thought they should have gotten together. It would have changed the whole show completely. I guess if they married on the last show, it wouldn't have been to bad but I don't think they should have starred in Three's A Crowd together.

I think that it would work if... oh.. um.. lets just say about 6 or 7 episodes before the finale they started to get together, but gradually. You don't want the disaster that they had with Vicki, by rushing everything. It probably would have worked best if they began the relationship with "Mate for Each Other", although they would have to move it to the end of the series so that it would correspond with the 6 or 7 final episodes. Then Jack and Janet can star in TAC. If they would have put them together right off the bat or anytime before season 8 then I don't think if would have worked. You need all that background to show the audience how much they care about each other. Then you can spring it on them

No wonder I like you!!! Your so smart! LOL! Mate for Each Other would have been a perfect beginning for them to start finding out their feelings!!

I don't think Jack and Janet hooking up would've worked. I agree with Nighthawk - it would've changed the show completely, from a farce to some kind of romantic comedy. I don't know. I just don't like the idea of them hooking up that much.

I agree with both you and Nighthawk. If Jack and Janet got together, it would of changed the whole show. I personally like the idea of them just being really good friends, I don't like the idea of them being together romantically, just doesn't fit IMO.

Yes, I think that it would've hurt the show. The show was about three roomates living together, not one gets involved with their roomate. Their more like brother ans sister, not boyfriend and girlfriend. I know that many here would've loved to see 'Jack' and 'Janet' hook up, but (IMO) it would'nt look right.
