From Variety...
Most surprisingly, Peacock appears poised to end "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," the fourth edition of producer Dick Wolf's "L&O" brand. Skein's lackluster ratings performance on a tough Friday night sked makes NBC's decision understandable, but the Peacock's longtime relationship with Wolf makes a cancellation of the skein after less than half a season stunning. |

I admit I haven't been watching it. The only episode I managed to see was the 2 hour SVU/TBJ block they had last week. Without the SVU lead in, I wouldn't have even bothered with TBJ.

That's odd. The ratings were for the most part pretty good when they were good (top 40) , but when they were bad they were BAD (no.68). But if there were any L&O shows I would think NBC would cancel, CI would be the one in my mind.

I am completely shocked... the TBJ episode on Tuesday a week and a half ago(with the SVU crossover) won the timeslot and got NBC's highest ratings for anything(a 20 share!). Their staple shows don't even do that well.

TBJ on Friday nights was getting beat by CBS' Numbers. When SVU aired there a few years ago, it dominated and was getting almost double of what TBJ was getting in 18-49.
The only reason it did good on Tuesday was because of the SVU lead-in and the SVU timeslot. |

I am surprised by this. I don't think it will be cancelled though. I think they will give it at least one more season.

Times have changed though. Numbers is really the only Friday night show that's been doing good this year. All the other Friday shows have seen their ratings fall.

I agree about TBJ, the only one I saw was the crossover with SVU. It was pretty good, but I was already hooked on NUMB3Rs before TBJ started. Maybe if they would just find another night before canning it altogether....
Cause I think they might be stretching an idea too thin with all the spinnoffs.... I think that is what might be happening with CSI... I dunno if NY is getting the ratings that the original and Miami is getting, cause it is opposite the original L&O too.... makes you wonder.... |

TBJ was third in its timeslot last night in both households and adults 18-49. NUMB3RS had a 7.4/13, 20/20 had a 7.0/13 and TBJ only managed a 5.4/10.

NBC is stupid if it was a repeat then. Repeats for sweeps, makes no sense, especially in its own time period.

NBC May Declare Mis-'Trial'
(Friday, May 13 08:49 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) It's looking like the final gavel may fall on "Law & Order: Trial by Jury" next week. NBC is poised to deliver a death sentence to the midseason series, the showbiz trade papers report. If so, it would be the first time a "Law & Order"-branded series has failed to earn a second season. It's tough to understate how strange it is to see the words "Law & Order" and "failed" in the same sentence. Though the original cops-and-lawyers series has taken a ratings hit this season, it's the longest-running drama on TV and remains a top 25 show. Spinoffs "SVU" and "Criminal Intent" are finishing their sixth and fourth seasons, respectively. "Trial by Jury," though, hasn't caught on with viewers the way the other shows have. After a solid start in early March -- including a special Thursday premiere that drew 17.3 million viewers -- the show has faded some in its 10 p.m. ET Friday spot. It averages 11.2 million viewers per week and has traded timeslot victories with CBS' crime drama "Numb3rs." The show departs somewhat from its "L&O" predecessors by focusing on courtroom action more than the investigation of crime and by taking an omniscient viewpoint that allows viewers to see what goes on with defense lawyers, judges and juries as well as district attorneys. It stars Bebe Neuwirth and Amy Carlson as prosecutors and Kirk Acevedo and Scott Cohen as D.A.'s investigators. Fred Thompson, also a regular on the "Law & Order" mothership, plays the Manhattan district attorney. Meanwhile, word in the trades continues to be that NBC is high on its drama pilots "E-Ring" and "Fathom," while "Inconceivable," a show set at a fertility clinic, has usurped "Book of Daniel" on the buzz meter. NBC unveils its 2005-06 schedule on Monday (May 16). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I am not surprised by this decision, obviously the Law and Order franchise is beginning to fade away. Law and Order's ratings have been lower this year on Wednesday Nights, Criminal Intent is gettings hurt by Desperate Housewives and Special Victims Unit is holding its own because it really has not had to compete against any solid show. I know Trial by Jury had its start date delayed a few times, plus losing Jerry Orbach to cancer had to hurt the show when he was being portrayed as a major character for the spinoff. Plus being on Friday Nights against Numbers which has been one of the highest rated Friday Night shows in a long time can't help either. |

If this is true and they don't change their minds before the season starts, I'll be totally surprised by this. I thought this show was preety good. I thought if ant Law & Order show would get the ax first it would be Criminal Intent. Even though I still watch it it just doesn't have the 'punch' the others do. It's not the characters there fine, it's the storylines. If they do cancel that show maybe they could use some of the characters in the other series?
