How Ward and June met...The real story!

Character's....

Ward Cleaver Sr.- Widower, wealthy mob boss and very big on family loyality.

Ward Cleaver Jr.- Oldest son of mob boss, ladie's man but looking to settle down with the right woman and start his engineering career. Secretly expects to leave shady family business.

Wil Cleaver- Youngest son of mob boss. Takes family business very seriously. Violent, manipulative and controling to women.

Frank Bronsan- Widower, gambler, drinker and in debt to Ward Cleaver Sr.

June Bronsan- Youngest daughter of Frank Bronsan, full time housekeeper to various places just to give her father money.


Fade in...Cleaver Den (meeting with all Cleaver men)

Sr. (slams papers down on desk) We need to shake up the Bronsan household!

Wil (cracking his knuckles) Well I can go pay them a visit.

Sr. (sighs and starts thinking...looks at Ward and points at him) Son, you are the negotiator in our family, you go speak with Bronsan.

Wil (rolls his eyes) Dad, you are not going to get anywhere by just talking!

Sr (gets up and grabs him by the shirt collar) That's enough! I gave your brother orders and he will talk to him and then if that don't work, then I'll send you! Do I make myself clear?

Wil (angry) Yes sir!

Ward (talking to his dad) What do you want me to say?

Sr. (goes and puts his hand on his shoulder) Son, you say whatever you have to say to get him to see that I mean business.

Ward (walking out) I'll take care of it.

Fade out....


Fade in.....at Bronsan home

Ward (knocks at door)

June (opens door) Yes? Can I help you?

Ward (looks at her in awe) Is your father home?

June (smiles and motions him to come in) No, he's not but I expect him anytime now, won't you please come in?

Ward (steps in) Do you always let strange men in the house when your father's not home?

June (smiles) I'm an adult you know.

Ward (giving her the once over) You sure are.

June (feeling uncomfortable) You um never did say your name.

Ward (puts hand out to shake her hand) Ward Cleaver.

June (shakes his hand reluctantly) Ward Cleaver? Why does that sound familar?

Ward (sits down) Your father owes us money.

June (look of discust) Oh, well we don't have it. (goes to open door)

Ward (gets up and goes to her and slowly closes door) Well, it's not that simple and another thing, this is between myself and your father. I'm not going anywhere until I speak with him...ok?

June (look of fear and calmly asks) Can we please sit down?

Ward (moves out of her way) Yes, we can as long as we understand each other. (notices her fear and with a gentle voice says) Look, I won't hurt you...ok? (takes her hand and leads her to couch) Just sit down and keep me company.

June (gulps) How much does he owe you?

Ward (sighs) It's not your problem.

June (aggrivated) The reason I'm asking is because I might have the money to give you!

Ward (smiles) Oh I doubt you have this kind of money. Besides, you shouldn't have any money, I assume your father is taking care of you since you live with him.

June (turns to him and points) Listen you, I work!

Ward (look of authority) First of all sweetheart don't point at me and second of all don't talk to me like that!

June (scared and looks down and softly speaks) What are you going to do to my father? We don't have the money. I will do what I can to help if you would just let me. (starts to cry)

Ward (sighs and hands her his handkerchief) I didn't mean to make you cry, it's just I don't like being talked to like that and I'm trying my best to be nice.
(looks at her with sympathy) Look darlin' I'm not here to hurt your father, but if I can't talk some sense into him than it's out of my hands.

Frank (walks in) Hi June, (stops and sees Ward) What do you want?

Ward (gets up) Oh I don't know...five thousand dollars?

June (Wiping her eyes) Daddy? Five thousand?!

Frank (goes to June) What did you do to my little girl?

June (pushing him away) Nothing daddy! But you did...didn't you? I've been giving you all my money so you could pay your bills and all you do is drink and gamble! (turns around with her arms crossed)

Ward (interupts) Look Mr. Bronsan, I would never hurt your daughter and I'm not here to strong arm you, my father simply wanted to give you another chance to pay up.

Frank (gulps) Or else?..

Ward (firm) Or else it's out of my hands. Look at what you are doing to your daughter. You are no kind of man taking money from the one person you should be taking care of. You make me sick! (thinking) I just thought of a way to pay off your debt with my dad and at the same time a way to protect your daughter.

Frank (confused) Protect my daughter from who? This is my debt!

Ward (shouting) Well, it's too bad you didn't think of that sooner! I'm protecting her from some of the hired men in my family incase they feel like teaching you a lesson through her and I'm protecting her from you!

Frank (calm) What is your idea?

Ward (pacing with his hands in his pocket) One of our maids quit today so she will come to live with us and work as our maid. She will have her own quarters and she will be taken care of!

June (fearful) Live with you?

Ward (goes up to her) It's ok, you don't have to be afraid. I will take care of you. We have to do it this way so my father feels like he's getting something out of this.

Frank: And just what do you get out of this? My daughter?

Ward (sarcastic) Maybe. (shruggs his shoulders) What are you gonna do about it?

Frank (getting irrate) My little girl is pure!

Ward (getting in his face) Well, I will tell you something. If she is still a little girl than why haven't you ever taken care of her like she needs and deserves?
(talking to June) You said you would do anything, this is what I suggest.

June (shakes her head in agreement)

Ward (touches her face gently) Ok..go get some things together.

Part 2...

Fade in....Cleaver home...

Ward (opens door) Come on in.

June (stops at door in awe)

Ward (takes her hand gently and leads her in) Its ok.

June (looking around the room in shock) Oh my, this is the biggest house I have ever laid my eyes on!

Ward (chuckles) I'll give you the grand tour after I introduce you to my father. (knocks on den door)

Sr. (hollers) Enter!

Ward (opens door and motions for June to go in) Ladie's first. Dad, this is June Bronsan.

Sr. (stands up and nods in confusion) Nice to meet you.

June (with a nervous smile) It's nice to meet you too sir.

Sr. (pours two glasses of Brandy) Son, join me on the balcony. (to June) We won't be long just have a seat young lady.

On the balcony...

Sr (gives Ward a glass and lights his cigar) Well, what is she collaterol?

Ward (look of discust) What is that supposed to mean?

Sr. (sighs) I ask you to go get my money back and you bring the honey instead!

Ward (sighs) Come on dad. I thought since Betsy quit you would agree for her to join us as our new maid and that way she can work off the debt that way.

Sr (irritated) Why don't Bronsan work off his own debt?

Ward (drinking his Brandy) That's just it, the bum is living off his own daughter and I thought if I got her out of there than he would have to live on his own and at the same time protect her from some of our guys that might want to teach him a lesson.

Sr. (puffing on the cigar) I see. (pauses) So you decided to ride in on your white horse and rescue her?

Ward (looking around and whispering) Well look at it this way, the debt will be paid off, in a way and at the same time the putz will have to find his own way to live.

Sr. (smiles) And you will be able to feast your eyes on a beautiful woman and become her hero. (pauses) You want her...don't you?

Ward (gulping his Brandy) Maybe.

Sr. (laughing) So take her.

Ward (sighs) Dad, she is different from the other ladie's I've been with, you know...

Sr.(winks at him) I know, she's never been touched.

Ward: The way she seems than no, I don't think she has been but, I'm not thinking about that now.

Sr. (sarcastic grin) Well I will allow you to deduct half of the debt if you decide you want personal services.. (whispering) I know you want her.

Ward (discusted) This conversation is over! (starts walking in)

Sr. (stops him) I was just kidding son. (serious) I know you seem to care about this one.

Ward (pauses) There is just something about her.


Back in Den....

Sr. (sits at desk) Well (pauses) May I call you June?

June (trembling voice) Yes sir.

Sr. (smiles) Just relax. I have agreed to my son's arrangement for us, welcome aboard.

June (smiles) Thank You.

Sr. (pouring some Brandy) Would you like something June?

June (shakes her head) No thank you.

Sr. : Now, I will have Ward show you to your quarters and starting tommorrow we will introduce you to the rest of the staff and my other son Wil. Oh and Ward..

Wil (enters den)

Sr. (stands up) Wil, this is June Bronsan, our new maid. Your brother is in charge of her.

Wil (gives Ward a dirty look) But I'm in charge of running the staff here!

Sr. (raises his voice) I said Ward will be in charge of her!

Wil (goes up to June and shakes her hand while looking at her up and down) Welcome to our home, you get tired of Ward here, just call on me. (winks at her seductively)

June (clinching her purse nervously)

Ward (notices June's anxiety) Well why don't I show you to your room?

June (sigh of relief) Yes, it's been a long day!

Fade out...


Fade in....June's room

Ward (unlocks door) Here you are (carrying her bags)

June (looking around) Wow, this lovely. Looks like my own apartment.

Ward (smiles) Well you will be working hard so you will deserve this. So let's talk about the rules and get that over with. (sits in chair)

June (sits down)

Ward : I think you know that disobeying is not tolerated. The biggest rule of all is that you are not to ask any questions that would have to do with family business, you don't talk to any visitors about business and the biggest thing is we don't talk to police. If you are approached by an officer you are to act like you know nothing. You will have a chaperone when you go out shopping or otherwise and they are in charge. Any questions about your duties?

June (quietly and nervously) I thought you were in charge of me, why the chaperone?

Ward: That is just for when I can't be with you. Most of the time, I'll be the one with you. Do you understand all of this?

June (worried) Yes.

Ward (looking at her with concern) You have any other questions? You seem concerned about something.

June (sighs) My father told me that my duties might be more than just a maid.

Ward (sighs) What do you mean?

June : I think you know what I mean.

Ward (firm) No, I don't tell me.

June (voice trembling) You know, he said that I might have to perform some extra duties, things that I have never done.

Ward (sarcastic and irritated) Oh I get it. Just because I'm a Cleaver than I was going to expect you to share my bed?

June (verge of tears) Yes.

Ward (goes to her and kneels down in front of her) I want you to know that I would love nothing more than to take you to bed right now but, I'm not into forcing a woman into it. (softly) Especially you. Your special and should be handled more gently. Your a true lady honey. (wiping her tears away) I won't hurt you and I won't let anyone else either. The minute I saw you I was in awe of you. (reaches in to kiss her)

June (heart pounding) What are doing?

Ward (softly) I'm gonna kiss you, you ever been kissed before? (kisses her softly and slowly)

Ward and June have gotten to know each other in the past few months and June has begun to trust him and have some very strong feelings for him but, her upbringing will not allow her to be forward enough to tell him.

June (cleaning the den)

Wil (walks in quietly and startels her)

June (jumps and gasps) Oh! I was just cleaning in here. Should I finish later?

Wil (smiles) That's a good girl (says in a demeaning way) No, let's get to know each other (shuts door)

June (uncomfortable) I really do have alot of work right now, I should go, besides this is very inappropiate.

Wil (angers) The only thing inappropaite here is your disobedience! I won't tolerate it!

June (starts backing away) I'm not that kind of woman!

Wil (swipes things off the desk onto floor in a rage) Maybe you are and you just don't know it yet! (grabs June and slams her on top of the desk, pinning her down)

June (starts to cry) Please! Get off me!

Wil (slaps her mouth and shouts) Shut up! (rips his shirt off, struggling with her and rips her dress)

June (trying to fight him off and crying hysterically)

Wil (holding her down with one hand and unbuckling his belt with other) Quit fighting me and it won't be so bad! (hits her again) This is going to happen!

Ward (walks up behind him and pulls him off June) Oh no it's not! (punches him)

A fight breaks out and they trade punches....

Ward (grabs Wil by the throat and drills him in the face, knocking him out)

June (curled up on the floor sobbing and bleeding)

Ward (slowly goes to her and kneels down...noticing her bloodied mouth and torn dress, he gently helps her up) It's ok now honey, it's all over.

June (trembling and crying) Thank You, he was....he was..(collapses in Ward's arms)

Ward (catches her and carry's her up to her bed)

Fade out...


Fade in...June's room...

Ward (lays her on the bed)

June (still trembling) Can you lock the door?

Ward (getting up and locks door, goes back and sits by her on the bed) See, it's locked, you are safe now. I'm going to get the first aid kit out of the closet...

June (grabs his arm) No! Don't leave me!

Ward (sits back down beside her) I'm not going anywhere, just to get the kit in the closet (points to closet) Ok?

June (shakes her head)

Ward (gets kit, sits back down) Tell you what, let's get this dress off you.

June (panicing) What?

Ward (soothing voice) No, honey that's not what I meant, you keep your slip on, it's ok. (wipes away her tears)

June (reluctant)

Ward (softly) It's ok, you can trust me. Haven't we gotten to be friends?

June (thinking) Yes. Ok, I might be more comfortable.

Ward (helps her up) Need some help?

June (wences in pain) I think I hurt my back.

Ward (takes her dress off her gently and helps her lay back down) Ok, lets get your cuts cleaned up, I also have some pills for the back pain here. (gets water and gives her pills) Here you go sweety, that should help with any pain.(starts tending to her cuts) Looks like your gonna have some bruising.

June (looks up at him) I'm so glad you came in when you did. (starts to cry hysterically)

Ward (scoops her up and comforts her) I'm glad too, I'm so sorry you went through that but, I promise I won't let anyone hurt you again.

June (holding on to him tight) I'm so scared, I've never been that scared. What if he gets to me when your not home?

Ward (softly) I won't let it happen again because I won't let you out of my sight. I'm gonna take you away from all this. I know I have to now. I will make your world safe (pauses) away from all this. I promise.

June (looks into his eyes) You would leave your family for me?

Ward (gently touching her face) June honey, I...I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life taking care of you and making you feel safe and secure.

June (smiles with tears in her eyes) You love me? When did that happen?

Ward (smiles and whispers) The minute I laid my eyes on you.

June (tears falling) I love you too.

Ward (kissing her tenderly) You can't mention our plans to leave. No one can know where we are going or our plans.

June (pauses) Do we have a plan?

Ward (smiles) Yes we do, I got that job in Mayfield, Ohio. It's a couple of a thousand miles away from here.

June (hugs him tight) Oh Ward, I'm happy for you.

Ward (looks at her) Be happy for both of us. June?

June : Yes?

Ward (pulls ring out of his pocket) I got this when I accepted the job today. Will you marry me?

June (shocked) Yes! I will! (wraps her arms around him and then stops) What if he would have got what he wanted today? (looks down)

Ward (lifts her chin and looks into her eyes) It wouldn't have changed my feelings for you one bit. (softly) This was not your fault. You do know that don't you?

June (sighs) I don't know, I keep thinking maybe I did something wrong or put out some signals.

Ward (firmly) No you didn't. And even if you had, you didn't deserve that!

June : What will your father say? Wil is still his son.

Ward : I don't think he will be pleased at all and I'm sure he will think of some kind of punishment fit for him. I know I'm not done with him yet.

June (pleading) Oh Ward, please don't mess with him again, lets just avoid him until we leave.

Ward (brushing her hair back) Hey you let me worry about that...ok? (kisses her and puts ring on her finger)

June (hugs him tight) Oh Ward, it's beautiful.

Ward (smiles) Not as beautiful as you. (pauses) Ok, you need your rest.

June (pleading with him) Please don't leave me alone.

Ward (sitting behind her leaning against the headboard, holding her) I won't go anywhere until you fall asleep. When I go speak to my father I will use my key to get in so don't open the door to anyone, I will make sure that no one disturbs you.

June (leaning her head against his chest) Ok (falling asleep)

The first 3 parts of this story has actually been a flashback of June's one afternoon while the boys are out playing ball and Ward is at work. She was dusting and came across their momento book with wedding and other photos and decided to sit down and think about years ago meeting and falling in love with Ward.

June (looking at another photo of her on Ward's horse...starting to think back to that day in the stables)

In the stables....15 yrs. ago...

Ward and June (walking in stables)

Ward: Well, here we are! What do you think?

June (looking around) Wow, those horses are taller than I expected.

Ward (laughs) Well, when I get the saddle on then all you might need is a boost. It will be fine. (winks at her)

June : Can we ride the same one since I never rode before?

Ward (flirty voice) You bet, (pulls her into his arms and kisses her)

June (pulls back) Did you hear that?

Ward (concentrating on her..kissing her neck) Hear what honey?

June (worried) I don't know just like someone is outside in the bushes watching us. I'm getting a spooky feeling.

Ward (in a soothing voice) Hey, everythings ok. My father said that Wil was out of town for the weekend. Remember?

June (smiles and sighs with relief) I guess your right, I'm just making myself crazy.

Ward (smiles and kisses her) That's my girl. Ok, do you need to use the restroom before we hit the trail?... because it's a long one.

June: You have a restroom her in the stables?

Ward (smiles) Yes we do, it's for the ranch hands when they are working.

June: Maybe I better use it.

Ward (takes her hand and directs her) Just around the corner honey. (pointing) I'll be over her saddleing up.

June (going to restrooom) Thank you.

Ward (smiles) Don't be long.


In the restroom area...

June (walks out)

Wil (sneaks up behind her and grabs her and puts his hand on her mouth)

June (struggling and bites down on his hand and screams) Ward!!

Wil (yells) Bitch! (going after her)

Ward (comes up behind him and throws him against the wall and beating him)

Wil (on the ground)

Ward (pulls him up) Get up you son of a bitch! (punches him again) (talking to June) Honey, grab that rope above you.

June (tosses Ward the rope)

Ward (ties Wil's hands behind his back) Ok, I'm going to give June the chance to get some revenge. (picks up big stick)

June (terrified) I can't Ward, you already beat him, please don't make me do this.

Ward (goes to her) I won't make you do anything baby but I will give you this opportunity to nail him for what he put you through.

June (starting to cry) I just want to get out of here.

Ward (puts his arm around her) Ok we will in a minute, I'm not done with him yet. (goes back to Wil and starts hitting him with the big stick)

June (looking away)

Wil (on the ground begging) Please! Stop! (starts crying)

Ward (yelling) You didn't have a problem hearing June begging you to stop..did you?! (sits him up and grabs him by the throat and stares into his eyes) You ever come near my lady again, I swear I will castrate you and feed it to you! Do you understand?!!

Wil (crying like a baby) Yes, damit!!

Ward (throws stick aside and leaves Wil) Come on honey, let's get you out of here. (puts arm around her waist)

outside of the stables....

June (trembling)

Ward (stops) You ok honey?

June (starts crying and grabs onto him)

Ward (comforting her) I'm sorry you went through that again baby. Shhh....this time it's really over.


Present day....

June (hears door close and jumps)

Ward (shouts) Honey, I'm home. (sees her in livingroom and goes to her)

June (smiles and stands up and hugs him tightly)

Ward (holding her) Hey, anything wrong?

June (looks up at him) Why do you ask?

Ward(kisses her) You look like you have been crying. (notices book on the coffee table) You have looking at old photos I see. (sits down, loosens his tie and looks through the book.

June (smiles and snuggles next to him)

Ward (puts arm around her looking at book) So what made you start to look through this honey?

June (lays head on his shoulder) I was dusting and I seen it and started looking through and the next thing I know your home. (looks up at him) You know it's been such a wonderful 15 yrs. You have always been my knight in shining armour. (tears in her eyes)

Ward (concerned look on his face) You have been remembering everything...haven't you? (holding her close)

June (snuggles close to his chest, playing with his tie) Well, I started remembering the first time we met and the next thing I know it's all playing in my head like a movie.

Ward (kisses her forehead and stroking her waist) The bad memories too?

June (tears streaming down) Well they are very much apart of the past.

Ward (holds her tight) Oh baby, I'm sorry. (sighs) I remember how hard it was for you and how it even effects now sometimes.

June: What do you mean?

Ward : Oh nothing really I guess sometimes when we make love you still seem to be somewhat intense.

June (sighs) I guess so. (pauses) All I know is that nothing is right with the world until you are home and I'm in your arms...my favorite and safest place to be. I just love you so much. (starts to cry)

Ward (wipes her tears away) I love you too honey and nothing will ever change that. (starts kissing her) Where are the boys?

June (sitting in his lap) Out playing ball, they will gone for awhile yet. (kissing him)

Ward (smiles and caresses her face gently) Should we go upstairs?

June (shakes her head and smiles with approval)

Ward (picks her up and carries her up to bed)
