My friend Jerry wants to know who played Alice's (argumentative) mother. He believes she also played Alice's aunt in some episodes. The sites I looked at for him tend to show only the four leads, not the subordinate but crucial other players, such as the guy who played everybody tangential to the plot (a bus driver, the guy who introduced Ralph and Alice, whatever). Please advise. Cordially, L. Craig Schoonmaker (Schoonmakr@aol.com)

I remember reading that Pert Kelton, the original Alice (from Jackie Gleason's old "Cavalcade of Stars" show), actually played Alice's mother in the color episodes from the late 60s. But I'm guessing you're talking about the classic episodes, so I can't help you.

Craig:
The actress you're looking for is named Ethel Owen. She did only a few things, according to her bio at us.imdb.com. I don't have any other info on her, including vital dates and the like. Hope this helps. Now, if I could find out who played Uncle Leo (and Judge Hurdle in one episode). Regards, Swingman Quote:

I have been trying for years to find out who played Uncle Leo. Thanks for the info. Now, who is singing "Do The Huckabuck"? And what is the name of the song Ralph plays on his cornet?????
Ethel Owen lived to be over 100 years old. Her daughter was Pamela Britton, from My Favorite Martian.

Message may not have gotten through. Carnival of Venice was song played on cornet. Hucklebuck was probably a band arrangement with a singer in Gleason's band that played for his shows. Have never heard that arrangement before. Yes Ethel Owen lived to be over 100. Certainly the oldest on the show-but jyce jandolph is also close to 90.. Hopethis helps
