Default Favorite Edith Bunker Moment

What is your favorite Edith Bunker moment?
Either a long, funny story or an emotional moment

For me, I screamed and cried with the audience when she escaped the rapist

And then there's always the can of cling peaches in heavy syrup - which she still remembers the heavy syrup part when she talks to the priest about being a "klepper"

My moment would be when Archie was against her working in the Jeffersons Dry Cleaning store and Archie says to Edith-"what are the neighbors going to say when they see you working in the Jeffersons Store? What are they going to say?

And then Edith reply was-"I guess they will just say HI Edith"

LOL-LOL
She was completely unaware that Archie's reason for not wanting her to work for the Jeffersons was because of their race.

Favorite Edith Bunker moment:
Episode #104 All's Fair. That one episode was the beginning of many episodes where you see Edith standing up to Archie more and speaking up to him. I thought the episode on AITF when Mike and Gloria introduced Edith to the concept of fair fighting in order for her to stand up to Archie more. I find that episode a breakthrough for Edith because there would be more episodes from that point on where you would find her standing up to Archie more. I love the All Fair's episode when Edith told Archie no she wasn't going to sit down because he told her to nor shut up because he said so. Archie was quite dumbfounded. I was applauding for Edith in that episode.

Episode #118 Edith Breaks Out. When Edith told Archie she was not going to quit the volunteer job she got at the Sunshine Home was great. I love it when she told Archie she was not taking any orders from him. It was classic when he was going to walk out on her and she was the one who slammed the door in his face. I screamed when she charged downstairs and told Archie that she was going to be the slammer this time and he was the slammee.

Episode #165 Unequal Partners. It was great when Edith made Archie stay after he planned for him and Edith to get away with Blanche and Barney to the cabin. Edith committed them to have a couple from the Sunshine Home get married in the Bunker home. Archie ranted and raved about it and wanted to stick with his plans for him and Edith. Edith made her position clear and let Archie know that she promised them this and will hold to her promise. It was great when she told Archie that if he leaves he can keep on walking. Other words don't come back she was telling him and she said the argument was over. I applauded with the audience.

Episode #191 Edith Versus the Bank. That was so funny when Edith tried to get $500 from Archie to buy a TV for their wedding anniversary by way of figuring it out that after so many years of taking care of the house Archie should pay her. When she did the math after so many years I was cheering Edith on. When she went off on Archie that was the angriest I've seen Edith get with him and it was funny and quite entertaining to watch.

so far, for me...........it got to be Edith's Problem.......episode 14 in season 2.

she came home all screaming and yelling at them. she came back from the kitchen, HAPPY AS A CLAM!

no one knew what to make of Edith.

Archie and edith was planning to go to DISNEYLAND.

Gloria realized it was a mood swing.

the best part for me was.........she told Archie to STIFLE IT!

Archie looked at Mike and Gloria then to Edith, "what did u say?"

"Stifle, stifle, stifle!"

Jean did a amazing job in the funny episode.

It was a trip to see Edith with a mood swing.

She also dropped the phone on Archie's foot in that episode.

That's why I loved her so much!!

The one that stands out to me is when she was going through "The Change" and she freaks out on Archie about going to SCRANTON!!! She wants to go and doesn't want to go to Disney World - or ANY OTHER KIND OF WORLD!

Yeah - that's the one I love! I'll never forget the first reaction at hearing HER tell Archie to Stifle! We were rolling on the floor - and his expression is priceless!

I loved how the groinacologist ends up prescribing pills for ARCHIE!

I liked the one where she's mad at Archie and she goes with Gloria over to spend the night with a couple of Gloria's girlfriends and she gets tipsy.

"Everybody thinks that they know me..."

Edith went in for the medical exam and they found a lump in her breast. It was a stunning scene because we know there is a lot more to her character than just the lightweight person who always had to catch up to everybody else's jokes.

I got a couple when edith is playing the piano at mike and glorias wedding and gloria and arichie hasn't come down yet and she screams GLORIA WERE WAITING that was hilarious.
when edith is going through the change
when edith is standing up to archie on her own about working at the sunshine center for old people.

The episode where Edith and Gloria had a fight and Edith is tossing and turning during the night - waking Archie - without realizing it and Archie says:"Hey Edith" and without missing a beat she goes: "Not now Archie I'm not in the mood."

The episode where she is told quietly by Gloria that the steaks they're having for dinner is horse. Edith's reaction to the news and Archie's enjoyment eating it are priceless. "But the queen don't ride a chicken."

The entire episode of Edith going through the change. One of TV's greatest moments in comedy.

Or anytime that something romantic or sexual is being discussed and Edith slowly catches on and becomes embarassed.

I forget the episode but Edith is coming down the stairs to the living room sees Archie turns to go back up but something is going on that she doesn't want to be a part of it and does this "caught" moment. Should she go upstairs or downstairs. Archie sees it and asks her: "What the hell are you doing, the peabody?"

Edith going through the change. I love it. That whole episode is hysterical.

I love the scene where Archie is trying to tell her about an all bear band and she snaps and says "I hate Bears" Archie says that they aren't ordinary bears or something like that and she shouts back "I hate all bears! Take it away!" and pushes the brochure away from him.

The Cling Peaches Episode. She wasn't allowed by Archie to say the word cling peaches so she says a can of "mmm hmm"

Those were all amazing eps....And with each one, im thinking..."Ok, thats another one I cant use" The only one left was the ep where Archie and Edith inherit an expensive tea set, which had belonged to the deceased woman, but, that was special to her "roomate"; who happened to be her lesbian lover; and wanted to be allowed to keep it.
The roomate saw the tea set as a beautiful momento to the one she'd shared love with, while Archie saw it as dollar signs, and didnt want to give it up.
It said a lot about Edith, when she decided the sentimental value was worth more to the roomate than the $ value that Archie placed on it, and gave the tea set to the grieving woman, despite Archie's protests!
