Default Camilla Lyman

I believe unsolved mysteries did a segment very late in the series on the life and death of Camilla Lyman. She was women from a weathy New England family who disappeared mysteriously in the 1980's. She was born priviledged though her life became very bizarre shortly before the time she disappeared and was allegedly murdered. Has this case been discussed at all on the message boards? Does anyone share an interest in this story?

Default The murderer was obviously George O Neal. Why dont the police charge this dude ?

This case intrigued me. IMO its one of the most creepy unsolved mysteries cases. I wonder why nobody paid much attention to this case?

The manner the segment was portrayed clearly indicated that the murderer of the heiress was George O Neal.

1) George O Neal was her sole confidant.

2) He held her power of attorney and was the sole beneficiary of her estate. He was still depositing her checks.

3) He claimed he last talked to her a year before and found her missing from her home and her dogs uncared for.

4) He hired full time staff to take care of the kennel and started campaigning Camilla's dogs as his own.

5) Several pricey heirlooms / stocks belonging to Camilla were starting to go missing from her disappearance then forth.

6) He refused detectives entry to the premises to conduct a search which would have included the septic system where her body was found.

Wouldnt it seem very strange that somebody who assumed you are missing yet fail to notify anyone for a FULL YEAR but continue to care over your pets and property and later claiming ownership over them.

George O Neal had everything to gain from Camilla Lyman's death. It is very plausible to assume that once he gain power of attorney over Camilla's possessions he felt that she was no longer useful to him and had her disposed of.

All these were strong circumstancial evidence incriminating George O Neal to the murder of Camilla Lyman. These were enough to implicate this dude for the crime !! Why dont they just arrest this guy already?

All of us have read of stories about people who were charged for crimes based on lesser evidence !!

I guess the sad reason why not much attention was given to this case, despite an obvious killer being there is perhaps the fact that no one cares.

Camilla Lyman was pretty much a recluse and cut out from the world. She had no friends and thats maybe why theres nobody putting any effort in seeing that this case will be solved.

The family and the trust obviously cared enough to tell the story. I think it's a matter of circumstantial evidence being all they have. Juries nowadays expect glaring forensic evidence tying the killer to the victim. They just don't have it in this case, at least not yet, and the DA is probably reluctant to go forward because of it.

I agree with you, some people still cared about Camilla and I do think maybe people in her area cared as well.

I can't believe George O'Neil was never charged with murder. I mean, they found her body in the sewer system. How can that be ruled an accident? He stood to gain everything if she disappeared.

I agree even if they only had circumstantial evidence I feel it was more than strong enough to convict him. People have been convicted on less and I think it is obvious to everyone George O'neil was responsible.

Its a shame that she even let herself be taken advantage of like that. The curse of being rich i suppose.

Just saw the Camilla "Cam" Lyman segment (S10). This is definitely one of the more bizarre cases of not only the later seasons, but the entire series.

It's too bad that GON wasn't charged in her murder. Though there probably wasn't much physical evidence tying him to the crime, it's obvious he had the most to gain from her death.

This case is also unusual in that it involved someone who was very wealthy - and still wasn't investigated as much as it should have been. At the least, I wonder why the authorities didn't get a search warrant & insist on searching the house/surrounding area when she disappeared?! They just let it go, all because GON wouldn't let them. Sad. I could be wrong, but I believe that if this were investigated as thoroughly & as completely as it should have been, they probably would have found more evidence that pointed the finger at GON.

It's obvious that this "fell through the cracks" because CL was a recluse, cut off from her family, and had no friends/acquaintances other than GON. SO, she didn't have anyone to be an advocate on her part - either before or after her death.

I wonder where all of the $ & assets went?! I suspect that GON hid/concealed at least some of this from the authorities. And, since he passed in 2011 I doubt anyone will ever find out what happened to this.
