I don't know if it would or not because TV is so politically correct and a show Sanford and Son might be protested.

It would never last today. Neither would AITF, Good Times, and defnitely not Maude.
These days, TV can tolerate sex but not "Racism". In the 70s it was opposite. |

Most if not all of the new shows made today are awful. The networks are so into the young demographic, the shows are almost unwatchable.

I don't think any of Norman Lear's shows could be made today.

What's sad is that today society's so quick to be "politically correct" that they don't even stop to think what the purpose of these shows were - they weren't to promote racism at all but to point out how stupid it is and looks on people of any race to be predjudiced.
I think there's just too many touchy critics today to accept the points these shows were making. I don't even think of race when I'm watching t.v.. If I like the characters and writing that's good enough for me. |

Yeah - that too (liking the characters). I don't care what the race or situation, if you can associate with the characters and like them then it doesn't matter. Like I said, I don't even think about it. And I also find some of the lines made against whites (George Jefferson, Fred Sanford, etc.) offensive. It's all part of the character's makeup. And even if it's edgy, if you can't handle the odd shot then you should take a close look inside yourself - its no big deal. I've had plenty of black friends that would kid me about stuff - never bothered me for a minute. We all bleed red and I celebrate it. It would be a pretty boring world if we were all one race. |

Actually, maybe I'm stupid, but I still don't get offended really - I think they're funny actually. It honestly doesn't bother me. So I'm white - nothing I can do about it! To me, the human race is like cats or dogs. We're all the same species, we all look identical inside and bleed red, it's just the outside that appears different like it does in different breeds of cats or dogs - doesn't bother them, why should it bother us? The most beautiful woman I have ever met was from Trinidad and was a combination of black, east indian, chinese and spanish and she was stunning - she got the best from all backgrounds! |

Fred really didn't insult whites as much as George Jefferson.

I doubt it.First things first when the puerto ricans see how sanford makes fun of julio, they will go nuts. Some of the things that he told says about puerto ricans are just crazy. For example, when sanford tells his son in one of the episodes,
" Come here son, let me explain something to you, If the Lord had intended for you to eat Puerto rican food, he would have lined your stomach with peptobismal. As funny as this line was, I do not think the puerto ricans will take it to kindly. At the same time gay people will be pissed cause of the way he was alway making fun of gays. |

The only thing that bothered me was when George Jefferson talked bad about the white Edith Bunker behind her back. Otherwise, we should laugh at the racist jokes.
