Default One Day At A Time in Mad Magazine

Does anybody remember seeing the One Day At A Time parody in Mad magazine? I saw it many years ago.

Ann Romano was Ann Parmesan, and Barbara was called Barbar I think. I can't remember for sure what they called Julie or Schenider. Schneider was always entering the apartment in really weird places instead of the front door. He popped up through the bathtub drain while Ann Parmesan was taking a shower, and she yelled "Schneider! Don't you ever use a door?!"

It was done quite early in the show's run because Ann Parmesan had that bowlcut with the bangs.

I wish I still had it.

I have that one. (No. 190; April '77) The parody is called One Dame at a Time. The girls are "Ghoulie" and "Bobka", Schneider is "Drain Sniper", but there doesn't seem to be a name for Ann; the girls just call her Mom. "Sniper" keeps coming in through the walls, windows, even popping up out of a pot at the dinner table, so finally Ann does the only thing she knows will get him to leave her alone -- she marries him.

That seems to be the one. I'm almost certain Ann was called Ann Parmesan. I guess not.

I've read it over again a couple of times and found no mention of a last name. I like Parmesan, though. They should have thought of that!

I could've seen something else. There used to be Mad ripoff magazines back then like Crack'd and Crazy. Parmesan is a great name!!

I would love to read that issue.

Mad magazine was a great memory from my childhood. It was the first nudity that I saw.(Even though they were cartoons )

Same here! I still doodle the "Don Martin" cartoons when I'm bored.

I still have original copies of Mad when they parodied The Godfather and The Poisiden (sp?) Adventure!

First thing I'd do while walking out of the store with it was to fold that back cover!

I even have a resin brooch of Alfred E. Newman!

Well, I've got bad news folks... all this talk about Mad Magazine made me go to their official web site http://www.dccomics.com/mad/

I was curious to see if they had either: (1) back issues for sale or (2) an online archive of back issues which could be accessed, maybe with a subscription.

Unfortunately, no such luck..

Yeah, I wish I had kept my copies in good condition - it'd be interesting to see what they're worth to collectors these days.

I seem to have most of the issues from October '72 - December '78 (including the Specials and Super Specials) and a few from '79, but they're definitely not in good condition. At this point, I think they're only valuable to me.

My older brother bought Mad Magazine pretty much monthly from about 1963 or so until about 1973...then I kind of picked up the slack and bought it fairly regularly for about the next 15 years... I kind of stopped in the late 80s, but would occasionaly pick one up during the 90s... it's still great, but I haven't picked one up in several years...

Pulling this up from 10 years ago because I have both the Mad and Cracked issue in my basement, so I'm going to definitively give the names.

Mad- One Dame at a Time
Ghoulie
Bobka
Drain Sniper
(those are the only character names used)

Cracked- One Date at a Time
Ankee Parmesan
Barbar
Drain Schnighter
Jinny Reblecha
(no name for Julie, and David pops up at the end, but for some reason they just call him David)
