Two Sanford and Son Mysteries - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

We will probably never know the answer to these questions but it's just still fun to talk about them.

Question 1.

I always wondered what was significance behind the date May 1st. Fred used this date twice on the show in two different episodes. Lamont asked Fred when he was going to do the cleaning and Fred's response was May 1 and that same date was mentioned in another episode So I would just like to know what that date really meant in the real life of Redd Foxx

Question 2

I wonder if Areatha Franklin's song-"respect" was one of Demond Wilson's favorite songs in real ife because he has sung this song in two different episodes. He was walking around singing-"what you want, WHOOP, Baby I got it"-LOL

Two Questions that probably will never be answered.

How about Fred's love/hate relationship with El Segundo. Ive never even heard that city mentioned anywhere since S&S. Im even wondering now if it even exists.

It does. I've been there. And it's a pretty decent town, IIRC.

The other time Fred said "May 1" was in the TV Addict ep. in respose to Lamont questioning when he was going to start an exercise program.

Something like:

Fred: "I can tell you the exact date when I'll be ready to start."
Lamont: "When?"
Fred: "May 1."

Probably not because He only sung it once on the show. But then again, maybe it was

The thing that I've always wondered about was how did Donna, a nurse, meet and become attracted to Fred, a junkman?

Donna was a "practical nurse" whatever that is. Does that mean she was a real certified nurse or just like a care giver; like helping people eat,bath, and stuff like that.

I'm thinking she was the caregiver type that helped people out. Eh...maybe she was taking care of one of Fred's friends or something and maybe that's how they met? I don't know why I've always wanted to figure this out, but I just gotta know for some reason.

I just happened to be watching episode 7 of the fifth season tonight when Lamont asked Fred to help move a piano off of the truck. Fred said "May 1st, the first day of the hernia festival.

A practical nurse is a "LPN", liscensed practical nurse. This is just shy of being a RN, registered nurse. My mother was an LPN before she became an RN.

I just found this message board, it's interesting to see other Sanford and Son fans. I have the 1st and 5th season on dvd, although I have seen every episode on tv. I met a woman in Vegas back in 1990 who is related to a now late celeb and knew Redd personally. I was supposed to meet Redd right before he died. I was in the Air Force at the time and had to go to S. Korea. I was looking forward to meeting him when I returned, but sadly he died before I got back.

A trivia question: Does anyone else out there know why Redd Foxx used 2 d's in his name "Redd". I'll post the answer in a couple of days.

I don't know why he has 2 d's in his first name....but if you ever saw his act in Vagas or listened to anyone of his albums, you would know why he uses 2 x's in his last name.
