Default When The George Jefferson character was seen for the very first time on TV in 1973,

he looked like he was 55 years old. His entire head was gray and the receding harline defitely added some years. But surprisingly, in 1985 12 years later when the Jeffersons was about to end, George looked like was 43 and there were no gray hairs-LOL So he got younger as time went on from 1973.

I am still not convinced that Sherman Hemsley was born in 1938. he did look a decade older than that in the 70s, although he was vrey spry and energetic. He dyed his hair in the later seasons. Another actor who de-aged was Robert Guilliame. His hair was completely white in Soap, yet when he got to Benson it was dark.

His days on All in the Family, he looked almost 60-lol Especially in that very first episode.

I think he's older than he says, because if he was born in 1938 that would mean he was only 35 when he first appeared and he looked too old to be that age.

I think it was the personality of the George Jefferson character and the receding hairline that made him look much older than 37
