Default Spell Checker?

Dear Mods or Admins,

Do these boards have a spell check? If so, how do users activate it? If not, I think it would be a cool addition!

Boy yeah, that would be excellent! I find sometimes I'll have to open a word document, checkout the spelling and the paste it into the post. A spell check would be a really helpfull addition if possible!

There's no spellchecker in this software, sorry.

If there was one, it would be convienient for some but annoying for others who spell normal words differently.

Don't worry about your spelling and grammar. Nobody is here to learn academics and if someone corrects you, they'll have to face my wrath.

That should be convenient.

It would be great if an upgrade were ever available, but I can see it would be hell for a couple of people on here (I suspect typing skills more than anything - and I'm not talking about you Nik ). Personally, I don't mind using the American spelling of words anyway - I try to do that purposely so most people won't think I'm misspelling them anyway!! (I think Canada & Australia all use the British spelling still).
I find my spelling on here worse than anywhere else - probably because I'm usually typing almost as fast as I'm thinking. My own fault!!

If a spellchecking device WERE to be added to the vBulletin software, it would most certainly be an optional feature (not compulsorily-ran) that users could choose if they wanted to go through and see if they made any simple errors.

I think it would be nice to have but it's not necassary or important. I used to worry about spelling and check it on word but now I just write without worrying about spelling or grammer.

Don't they have spell checker now? Earlier this morning for some reason whenever I misspelled a word, a red line would form under the word and I could corret it.

I wish (and this is only a *wish*) that although I know we're not here to "learn academics" that people would at least *try* to make an effort to use correct spelling and grammar. It really does make a post much easier to read. Unfortunately, I've seen a few posts here where almost every single word is misspelled, words left out, no punctuation, etc. It literally gives me a headache figuring out what someone means to communicate. I don't expect everyone to be *perfect* (I know I'm not!) but just not so sloppy.

*Any* spell check would be better than none, IMO.

You need to keep in mind that that you don't know the user outside of the boards. A user can have a mental or physical disability (there's a member here that has cerebral palsy), might not be American, or might not have English as a first language. If it bothers you so much, you can use the Ingore List. But correcting people's grammar on a public message board is not only rude and insulting but it is NOT helpful.

OK, so what *would* be helpful then? All I'm saying is if somebody *is* capable of writing legible English (not disabled, not foreign) that they please do so or at least do their best. I mean, why not? THAT would be a courtesy to the other readers because, like I said before, it just makes the posts easier to read. And if spell check would help, well why not have it?
