Default Pre-Dating Ettiquettes: How long to wait before "the call?"

Just curious....

Males: First off, how old are you? If a girl approaches you, makes conversation, you seemingly enjoy it, then asks you out, and then gives you her phone number AND email address (but you don't give her yours), how long do you wait until you call her? Please specify whether you consider yourself shy or not. Why, or why not?

Females: Have you been the girl in the scenario above to ask a guy out? If so, please share your experiences. Good or bad.

Thanks to everyone who answers the questions...

Welp, my current boyfriend and I were best friends for about a year and a half before we started dating, and so, I kind of forget how it happened... we were just talking one night and I told him I had feelings for him (he already told me he had them for me) and we just kind of mutually agreed on it, I guess, I'm not really sure... whatever it was though, it worked. We've been together 5 1/2 months

mine is very "hello, i am 4 years old"... I went on a blind date and met Jonathan... we hit it off really well, talked constantly, good eye contact, etc. etc... anyway, about a month of flirting but not having anything definite he just looked at me and said "Melissa, I really do not know how to do this so i'm going to do it the only way I know how... Will you be my girlfriend?" it was sooo adorable, I couldn't help but to say yes...

Kay Scarpetta & MsOrange: Thank you both for your responses!

Dawson's Girl & Pleasant Tomorrow: Why not? I'm just curious to read why you choose not to. I actually don't blame you too, in reality. The first guy I asked out last summer was gay. His is understandable, as I didn't go further - he's outta reach. The second guy I asked out was actually ten days ago, and he said, "yes." I gave him my number and email address, but I have yet to hear from him. He was painfully shy and didn't open up much, but then I had guts to approach him and got him to open up, we talked, he asked me questions, he and I were flirting, etc, but I haven't heard from him. It makes me feel stupid and wish I could crawl back into a hole. Not a good feeling....

Anyway, anyone have anymore stories to share on approaching people? There MUST be others....

Kinda how you feel right now scares me out of doing it. Fear of rejection, fear of humiliating myself, the general pain of sitting around waiting for something to happen that probably won't...

My ex and I were "together" for a week before we officially started dating but I am the one that asked if he wanted to go steady (shall we say).

Since I am a late bloomer, I want to perish the thought of a first date being when I am in my 30s or even in my 40s. *cringes* That's why I am pushing myself to go forth with it as part of life's learning lessons just to get through the hurdles of getting past the approach experience. It has to be taken as a normal part of life. Yes, it *is* scary, but I am finding it also builds self-confidence. We walk around knowing it *can* be done. Don't be afraid of it. There are also things going on with other people, too. This guy I asked out is VERY shy, so he could be scared, too. I gave him that "bam" experience of just asking him out, and he did enjoy talking with me. However, he also mentioned he had health-related personal problems going on (he mentioned them as part of self-disclosing, and that means A LOT in communication), so I think that's also part of why he's taking a while. Maybe he's scared to death to initiate anything. Well, I'll send you a PM with more info. Just look at it in a positive light.
